PRESEASON ALL-OVC TEAMS
MOREHEAD, Ky. -- In a vote by the league's head coaches and media relations contacts, Morehead State baseball has been picked to finish second in the OVC race in 2018, while junior outfielder
Niko Hulsizer is the Preseason Player of the Year and senior utility man
Eli Boggess is on the All-OVC Team.
The Eagles, who finished second last season, have 106 wins in the last three years - the most of any OVC team. They garnered five of the first-place votes.
Hulsizer, the 2017 Ohio Valley Conference Co-Player of the Year, ranked second in the nation with 27 home runs, which was a Morehead State and OVC single-season record. He also collected 193 total bases, which ranked as the best total in OVC and school history. With 21 doubles as well, he became the first player in program history with at least 20 homers and 20 doubles in the same season.
He has been named to seven Preseason All-American teams.
Boggess, who is slated to play several positions this year, was named First-Team All-OVC in 2017 when he ranked second in the nation with a .425 batting average. He had 88 hits, including 11 doubles and seven home runs and drive in 40 runs. He tied the MSU single-game hit record when he went 6-for-6 against Massachusetts. He also had 25 multi-hit games.
Tennessee Tech was selected for first place. Morehead State defeated the TTU squad twice in the final regular-season weekend last year.
The season opener for Morehead State comes in just a week when it plays UMass Lowell in the Swig and Swine College Classic in Mount Pleasant, S.C.
