BOCA RATON, Fla. – In his first outing of the 2018 spring season,
Tyler Hillyer tied for 24th place out of 114 participants at the FAU Slomin Autism Invitational on Sunday at the Osprey Point Golf Course. The Princeton, W. Va. native carded 72-73-70 as an individual competitor in the best showing of his junior campaign.Â
"I'm extremely proud of Tyler's performance this week," said head coach
Matthew Martin. "He took absolute advantage of an opportunity. I was thrilled for him over the course of the tournament."
Morehead State finished in 18th place at 306-301-293 after partaking in its largest tournament field of the season.
"As a team, we've got to put our heads down and get to work," Martin said. "We need to be playing our best a month from now (at the Ohio Valley Conference Championship on April 23). We're still in position to improve."
Cooper Colllins led the MSU lineup in a tie for 50th on the leaderboard by way of a two-under second round, totaling 77-70-74 on the weekend.
Blake Cartwright ended the tournament three-under in the round, tying for 58th place at 76-77-69.
Joe Muschong tied for 88th,
Zac Viminitz tied for 97th, and
Zach Smith took sole possession of 109th to round out the scoring for the Eagles.
Nick Wilkins, who competed alongside Hillyer as an individual, equaled Cartwright's third-round feat in a tie for 65th place at 75-79-69.
Morehead State will conclude its 2017-18 regular season with the Mizzou Tiger Invitational on April 9-10 in Columbia, Mo.
