Women's Basketball Ready for Challenge Against Tennessee Tech Thursday

MOREHEAD, Ky.
– The Morehead State women's basketball looks to knock off the Ohio Valley Conference's final unbeaten team on Thursday evening when Tennessee Tech invades Johnson Arena.
 
The Golden Eagles, who are 14-3 overall, have opened conference play with a 6-0 mark and are currently riding a nine-game winning streak. Tennessee Tech is led by sophomore guard Jordan Brock who averages 14.4 points per contest.
 
Morehead State entertains Tech with an overall record of 13-6 and a 4-2 OVC record. The Eagles have win three games in-a-row including two consecutive contests at home.
 
The game will serve as the faculty/staff appreciation game with special promotions for employees at MSU.
 
The team's will tipoff at 5:05 p.m. ET. Emma Tiedemann will have the play-by-play call on ESPN+ and the Kentucky Office of Highway Safety Eagle Sports Network 96.3-FM WIVY.
 
GAME NOTES
 
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. TENNESSEE TECH
The Eagles & Golden Eagles will meet for the 87th time on Thursday at Johnson Arena. Despite Tennessee Tech holding a 59-27 advantage in the all-time series (The most losses to any opponent for MSU), Morehead State has been victorious in the last four meetings between the teams and has won the last five matchups played in Morehead. The Eagles have won the last four matchups by an average of seven points. The teams will meet twice (including Thursday) during the 2018-19 season
 
ALL BLUE & GOLD A SEASON AGO
Morehead State came away with a clean sweep over TTU during the 2017-18 season. The first win came on Dec. 28, 2017, in Cookeville, Tenn., as MSU led from start-to-finish in a 74-67 win. The second meeting (Jan. 20, 2018) between the squads came down to the wire as the two team's swapped the lead eight times before guard Breuna Jackson drove to the cup and hit a game-winning layup with three seconds remaining.
 
LAST TIME OUT - SKYHAWKS GROUNDED
Morehead State battled back from a 12-point hole in the first half to upend UT Martin, 85-75, on Saturday at Johnson Arena. Senior forward Tierra McGowan achieved her first double-double of the season, logging 18 points, 17 rebounds outing. Graduate Forward McKenzie Calvert scored a game-best 22 points to couple with six rebounds & five assists.
 
AWARD-WINNING PERFORMANCES
Tierra McGowan earned her first-career Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week honor & junior guard Aliyah Jeune added to her collection of OVC Newcomer of the Week awards by winning her fourth, the league announced Tuesday. McGowan averaged an impressive 13.5 points & 13 rebounds in the Eagles two wins a week ago. Jeune posted 19.5 points & five rebounds per contest on the week. The 6-foot-1 guard sank nine triples in two games, including a career best six in MSU's win over SEMO Thursday.
 
TODD TO THIRD
Eagles' head coach Greg Todd won his 77th career game over UT Martin on Saturday, the win moved Todd into third on the MSU all-times win leaderboard passing former bench boss Laura Litter (1997-2005).
 
CROCKETT'S LAST EXPEDITION
Senior Miranda Crockett has scored in double figures in 24-consecutive games dating back to last season (Feb.15, 2018 at Tennessee State). The guard's 15-point outing Saturday against UT Martin raised her career-points tally to 1,554 points which is ninth all-time in MSU history. The guard is also fourth in career steals in the MSU record book with 211. Crockett won the OVC Player of the Week award on Nov. 20, 2018 of this season, her third time winning the award in her career.
