Women's Basketball Faces Off Against Jacksonville State Saturday

MOREHEAD, Ky.
– The Morehead State women's basketball looks to pull off its fifth-consecutive victory when Ohio Valley Conference foe Jacksonville State visits Johnson Arena on Saturday.
 
The Eagles enter the game with a 14-6 overall mark and a 5-2 record against OVC competition. The Gamecocks come to town sporting an even 9-9 record and a 3-4 conference mark.
 
Emma Tiedemann will have the play-by-play call on ESPN + and the Kentucky Office of Highway Safety Eagle Sports Network 96.3-FM WIVY.
 
GAME NOTES
 
ALL-TIME SERIES VS JACKSONVILLE STATE
The Eagles & Gamecocks will meet for the 34th time on Saturday. Morehead State holds a 19-14 advantage in the series that began on Dec. 12, 2009. The Gamecocks have won the previous three meetings in the series. MSU holds a 10-6 all-time advantage in games played at Johnson Arena.
 
TIME TO FLIP THE SCRIPT
The Gamecocks had the Eagles number three times during the 2017-18 season, including a 69-56 victory in the first round of the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament in Evansville, Ind., that ended the Eagles' season. Last season's matchup in Morehead came down to the wire and was won 67-65 as JSU's Ki-Ki Patterson made a layup with one second remaining to help her squad escape with the win on Jan. 18, 2018. Miranda Crockett led the Eagles in scoring against the Gamecocks last season with an average of 17.7 ppg.
 
LAST TIME OUT - SUPREME EAGLE
Morehead State handed the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles their first loss against OVC competition, 77-56, on Thursday. Reigning OVC Newcomer of the Week Aliyah Jeune scored 26 points and tied a career-best mark for triples with three makes from deep while Miranda Crockett chipped in 20 points to extend her double-figure scoring streak to 25 games. Reigning OVC Player of the Week Tierra McGowan also dominated the paint with 13 rebounds and a career-high seven rejections.
 
SIXTH-WOMAN OF THE YEAR
Despite starting in just two of MSU's 20 games played, junior guard Aliyah Jeune not only paces the Eagles in scoring but is doing so for the entire OVC. The Westampton, N.J., product is averaging 19.6 points per contest and is the only player in NCAA D1 to lead her respective conference in scor­ing and have started less than ten-percent of games played.
 
AWARD-WINNING PERFORMANCES
Tierra McGowan earned her first-career Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week honor & Aliyah Jeune added to her collection of OVC Newcomer of the Week awards by winning her fourth, the league announced Tuesday. McGowan averaged an impressive 13.5 points & 13 rebounds in the Eagles two wins a week ago. Jeune posted 19.5 points & five rebounds per contest on the week. The 6-foot-1 guard sank nine triples in two games, including a career-best six in MSU's win over SEMO Thursday.
 
CROCKETT'S LAST EXPEDITION
Senior Miranda Crockett has scored in double figures in 24-consecutive games dating back to last season (Feb.15, 2018 at Tennessee State). The guard's 20-point outing Thursday against Tennessee Tech raised her career-points tally to 1,574 points which are ninth all-time in MSU history. The guard is also fourth in career steals in the MSU record book with 213. Crockett won the OVC Player of the Week award on Nov. 20, 2018, of this season, her third time winning the award in her career.
 
THE TODDFATHER
Head coach Greg Todd moved to third in the MSU record book for all-time wins with his 77th victory as the bench boss when his team defeated UT Martin on Jan. 19, 2019. Todd surpassed former coach Laura Litter (1997-2005). Todd is in his fifth season at the helm of the program.
