Women's Basketball Gears Up for OVC Challenge at Austin Peay

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn.
– The Morehead State women's basketball team looks to ride the momentum of back-to-back wins into its Saturday afternoon meeting with Austin Peay at the Dunn Center.
 
The Eagles, who are 10-4 overall, defeated Murray State on Thursday to improve to 1-0 in the OVC. Junior guard Aliyah Jeune scored 28 points in the win on 11-of-23 shooting, while also knocking down four triples.
 
Austin Peay enters the matchup with an even 6-6 record overall. The Governors improved to 1-0 in OVC play with a 100-65 topping of Eastern Kentucky in their conference opener at home Thursday.
 
The governors are led by junior forward Arielle Gonzalez-Varner who leads the team in both points (12.8) and rebounds (8.5) per game.
 
The game is scheduled to tipoff at 2:30 p.m. ET. Fans can watch the action on ESPN+ or tune into the Kentucky Office of Highway Safety Eagle Sports Network on 96.3-FM WIVY.
 
GAME NOTES
 
VERSUS AUSTIN PEAY
The women of Morehead State and Austin Peay will meet for the 80TH time when they tip off on Saturday afternoon. Morehead State holds a small one-game advantage (40-39) in a series that began during the 1977-78 season. MSU has won the last two meetings between the teams – both played at the Dunn Center.
 
AWARD-WINNING JEUNE
Junior guard Aliyah Jeune won her second collegesportsmadness.com OVC Player of the Week award on Monday. The 6-foot-1 guard earned the honor by dropping 22 points and scorching the net on 5-of-6 shots from behind the arc. Jeune has also won the league's Player of the Week award once while bringing home the conference's OVC Newcomer of the Week award twice. Jeune followed her award-winning week up with a 28-point outburst against Murray State in the team's OVC opening win on Thursday.
 
SCORING STREAK
Senior guard Miranda Crockett has scored in double figures in each of the Eagles first 14 games to open the 2018-19 season. Dating back to last season, Crockett has scored in double figures in 19 consecutive games, a streak which began on Feb. 15, 2018, at Tennessee State.
 
STATISTICALLY SPEAKING
Statistically, Morehead State ranks TOP 10 NATIONALLY in SIX statistical categories. Offensively the Eagles are one of the highest scoring teams in the nation, averaging 84.7 points per game, ranking 7TH. The Eagles have also dished out a total of 261 assists this season which ranks 9TH in the NCAA-DI. Defensively Morehead State has caused havoc for opposing offenses, forcing 23.57 turnovers per game which rank 7TH nationally. The defense is also 3RD in total steals (177) and 6TH in steals per game (12.6). The Eagles have the 3RD best turnover margin in the nation at +9.0.
