MOREHEAD, Ky. – Following a standout high school career that culminated with a 2019 Kentucky High School Athletic Association State Golf Championship, Olivia Hensley will continue her career with the Morehead State women's golf program, joining as a member of the team's 2020-21 signing class.
"We are thrilled that Olivia Hensley will become our newest Eagle in the fall of 2020," said head coach
Stephanie Barker. "She is a local talent who we have cheered on for several years now. She is one of the top players in our region, excels in the classroom, and most importantly, is a wonderful person."
Hailing from Ashland, Ky. and competing for Boyd County High School, Hensley claimed BCHS second-ever KHSAA State Golf Individual Championship and the first since Samantha Hinchman in 1985. She earned medalist honors by finishing the 2019 KHSAA State Golf Championship at two-under-par (69-73-142)—the only player in 2019 to finish below par—while fashioning the best two-round individual score in the event since 2015 (Teri Doss, Sacred Heart – 138).
Hensley claimed the 2019 KHSAA State Golf Championship by leading the field in holes scored at par or better, finishing the event with 21 pars and nine birdies.
During her prep career, Hensley was a five-time KHSAA State Golf Championship qualifier, qualifying twice with BCHS and three times as an individual. She helped Boyd County to a pair of KHSAA Region 12 Championships (2018-19) while winning three Region 12 individual championships (2016-2018).
Hensley wraps her high school career as a four-time KHSAA Region 12 Player of the Year recipient, garnering the award each season since her freshman year. She also was twice named Kentucky Golf Coaches Association First Team All-State (2018-19) and once KGCA Second Team All-State (2017).
As a junior golfer, Hensley ranked as a top-five player in Kentucky by Junior Golf Scoreboard. During the 2019 junior golf season, she finished fifth at the KGCA All-State Tournament while also ranking third in the KGCA All-State points standings.
Off the course, Hensley is a multi-time KHSAA Academic All-State honoree and an Academic All-American. She's also a member of the National Honor Society.
"Olivia and her family fit in nicely with our current squad and embrace the ideals we hold dear. We are all excited for Olivia and her family and look forward to her arrival," added Barker.
