CHARLESTON, Ill. -- Morehead State men's basketball continues its trip through Illinois Saturday with a contest at Eastern Illinois. The Eagles and Panthers tip off at 4:15 p.m. ET following the women's action.
Morehead State (8-14/4-5 OVC) had a 16-point lead vanish in a seven-point setback at SIU Edwardsville Thursday. The Eagles will look to reverse their road record trend at EIU. The Eagles are 1-10 in true road games this season. EIU (13-9/6-3 OVC) has seen a resurgence this season under seventh-year head coach Jay Spoonhour. The Panthers have won eight games when its decided by five points or less.
Saturday's action will be on WIVY-96.3 FM and on ESPN+.
GAME NOTES
THE SERIES WITH THE PANTHERS
Morehead State trails 25-14 in its all-time series with the Panthers, which began in 1996-97. MSU has had a tough go of it in games at Charleston, Ill., posting a 4-15 all-time mark at Lantz Arena. Due to the OVC scheduling, the teams have only played once a year since 2011-12.
TAKE A FREE RIDE
Morehead State's 91 percent (10-of-11) free throw accuracy against Jacksonville State on Jan. 26 was the best in game since hitting 12-of-13 (.923) against Eastern Kentucky on Jan. 21, 2017, two seasons ago. It also marked the third best free throw shooting effort in the last six seasons.
TRENDS AND TIDBITS
In a span of 46 days in January and February, this is the Eagles' only road trip, so just a total of four days away from Morehead in a 46-day period ...
Jordan Walker has reached double-figures in points in 13 of the last 14 games ... Walker has a team-best eight 20-point games, including 22 at SIUE Thursday ... In the last five games, Walker is 27-of-30 (.900) from the free throw line ...
De'Von Cooper has scored in double figures in six of the previous nine games, and in that span he has nailed 46 percent (18-of-39) from three-point range.
HARRIS FOR 1,000
Lamontray Harris has 989 career points, needing just 11 more to become the 33rd member of the 1,000 point club. He would be the first 1,000-point scorer since Brent Arrington joined the club in 2015-16.
3-POINT STREAK CONTINUES ON
Morehead State has hit at least one three-pointer in 394 consecutive games, dating back to 2007 when the Eagles were held without a made one from beyond the arc against Jacksonville State.
LONG RANGE SHARPSHOOTERS
Jordan Walker and
De'Von Cooper have been incredibly accurate from three-point range this season in games versus league competition. Walker and Cooper are both hitting 46Â percent from outside against the OVC teams.Â
DOUBLE-DOUBLE MAN
Lamontray Harris now has eight double-doubles this season, ranking third in the OVC in that category behind Murray State's Ja Morant and Jacksonville State's Jason Burnell. Harris also now has 16 career double-doubles.
DISHING DIMES
A.J. Hicks has dished out at least one assist in all 51 games of his two-year career. This season he ranks second in the OVC with 122 total helpers and has 12 games with at least five assists. Hicks has 34 assists in his last five games, setting his career high with 11 helpers against Southeast Missouri and tying it versus UT Martin.
SMART WITH THE BALL
In addition to ranking among the OVC's leaders in assists, A. J. Hicks also boasts a nearly 2-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio.
BLOCKING BAKER
Sophomore
James Baker has recorded at least one blocked shot in six straight games and has 12 rejections in that span. Baker has blocked a team-best 24 shots.Â
