MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Hoping to punctuate one of the top seasons in Morehead State rifle history, the team will head to Jacksonville State this weekend for the OVC Championships.
Smallbore takes place Saturday with MSU athletes shooting in the 10:45 a.m. ET and 1:45 p.m. relays. Air Rifle is on Sunday with relays at 10:45 a.m. and 1:15 p.m.
Morehead State, Murray State, Jacksonville State and UT Martin will compete. The Eagles are currently ranked 16th in the nation in the latest Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association poll. JSU is 10th and Murray is fifth. Teams are ranked based on scores, so the Eagles are only 45 points in scoring behind the Racers, who have won three titles in a row.
"The OVC Championship is a fun event because anything can happen," said head coach
Alan Joseph. "We are very close with Jacksonville State and Murray so I expect it to be a tight match. We will be very competitive."
Last season, the Eagles eclipsed JSU for second place overall, the highest finish in program history. This year, MSU has risen to as high as ninth in the country.
In smallbore, the Eagles will line up
Erin Diehl,
Alexa Potts,
Ryan Hinson,
Katie Frye and
Brandon Bryer with
Amber Schifano as the alternate athlete. Air rifle will see Potts, Bryer and Hinson along with
Karly Potts and
Siarra Crum. Diehl and Frye are the alternates.
