MOREHEAD, Ky. – For the 11th consecutive season, Morehead State will host a spring tournament, hosting the MSU Citrus Classic in Sorrento, Fla. The Eagles have hosted the three-day event each season since returning to the links prior to the 2008-2009 season with this year's iteration calling RedTail Golf Club home, marking the fourth consecutive year the tournament has called the course home.
Sunday's opening round marks Morehead State's first round of golf in nearly a month as weather and cancellations have created a hole in the team's schedule. The Eagles' last action took place at the Amelia Island Collegiate on Feb. 18-19 as Morehead State placed 16th at the event.
Over the course of the three-day event, Morehead State will host eight teams, welcoming Austin Peay, Cleveland State, Dartmouth, Georgia State, Keiser, Lipscomb, Murray State, and Siena. A total of 55 players will take the course of the tournament, including 10 individual competitors.
RedTail Golf Club has been very good to the Eagles over the last three seasons as Morehead State has placed eighth (2016) and fifth (2017 and 2018). Morehead State has also placed an individual in the top-five in each of the last three seasons, with junior
Gypsie Hutchinson placing fourth during the 2016 and 2017 MSU Citrus Challenges. Last season,
Sarah Debnekoff led all Eagle players, placing tied for second in the rain-shortened event.
Head Coach
Stephanie Barker's lineup will feature Hutchinson at the top with redshirt sophomore
Bridget Connolly slotting second. Freshman
Elise Alaan, senior
Ana Dieguez, and freshman
Sarah Black round out Martin's lineup while freshman
Isabella Washka will compete as an individual.
The event will feature 18-holes over the course of each of the event's three days. Play begins Sunday with the first group teeing off at 8:30 a.m. ET.
