MOREHEAD, Ky. – In the first-ever NCAA-sanctioned beach volleyball matches featuring two teams from the Commonwealth of Kentucky, Morehead State beach volleyball registered a clean sweep of its in-state rival Eastern Kentucky. The Eagles (8-3) took both matches by identical scores, 5-0, in sweeping the Colonels (0-6).
Overall, in the 12 total flights played on the afternoon, Morehead State captured each game in each flight, recording a perfect 24-0 total in games played during the dual match.
In both matches, the Eagles top three flight pairings remained the same from the team's final two matches at the UNCW Dig & Dive Invitational. The freshman duo of
Hannah Keating and
Allison Whitten occupied the top line for Morehead State with sophomore
Olivia Lohmeier and freshman
Margaret Musselman slotting in at the two's. The third pairing was comprised of graduate student
Georgia Childers and freshman
Olivia Montelisciani.
Flights four and five featured a bit of reshuffling for the Eagles as junior
Chandler Clark and sophomore
Lauren Rokey slid up to the fourth flight after competing in the fifth pairing for the first half of the season. Freshman
Hannah Mabrey moved to the fifth flight, pairing with junior
Karlee Reynolds for the first time this season.
In the extra flight, Morehead State employed a combination of redshirt freshman
Taylor Hodges and freshman
Mia Swearingen in match one before redshirt senior Jess Hall teamed with Hodges in match two.
Tuesday's matches with Eastern Kentucky also coincided with beach volleyball's takeover of the NCAA Volleyball Instagram account (@NCAAVolleyball). The takeover allowed the Eagles to show a day-in-the-life of a Morehead State student-athlete and the beach volleyball game-day experience.
