Beach Volleyball Wraps the Regular Season with a Split at North Alabama
BOX SCORES (MATCH ONE | MATCH TWO)

FLORENCE, Ala. –
Hitting the sand for the final time in the regular season, Morehead State beach volleyball wrapped play at North Alabama Saturday. The Eagles (14-7, 4-4 ASUN) earned a split with the host Lions (10-10, 4-4), taking the first match 3-2 before falling in the finale by the same margin.

"Going into this weekend, we knew that North Alabama was going to make us fight for every point," said head coach Jaime Gordon. "That started in the first pairings of game one as Liz Allen and Lauren Rokey won their match 18-16 in the third game to put us on the board."

Junior Liz Allen and sophomore Lauren Rokey captured a crucial fourth flight in game one, rallying back from a one-game to none deficit to reel off two game victories to take the flight. The pairing dropped the first game 21-8 before storming back and taking the next two 21-16 and 18-16 in the deciding game. The pairing would split on the day, dropping in the second match from the fourth pairing.

Competing from the fifth flight for Morehead State in match one was the combination of junior Chandler Clark and freshman Hannah Mabrey. The duo dropped a hard-fought flight, dropping the first game 21-17 before falling 22-20 in the second. In the second match, Clark would pair with junior Karlee Reynolds, falling in the first game 21-7 before forcing extra points before dropping 22-20 in the second.

At the top two spots in the lineup, Morehead State earned a perfect day, going 4-0 in each the first and second flights. The freshmen duo of Hannah Keating and Allison Whitten took both of their matches in three sets, winning both final sets by scores of 15-11 and 19-17.

"The ones were a matchup between four of the top freshman in the ASUN and North Alabama made Hannah Keating and Allison Whitten earn every point. With both matches going three, they showed great composure and fight to pull out two wins," added Gordon.

Since being paired together, sophomore Olivia Lohmeier and freshman Olivia Montelisciani continue to be one of the top pairings for Morehead State. The duo put together two victories in the second flight to keep the pairing undefeated (3-0) from the post in conference action. The pairing handled their matches, winning 21-5, 21-10 and 21-6, 21-9 on the day.

Gordon added, "even though it's only been two weeks since Olivia Lohmeier and Olivia Montelisciani started competing as a pair, they have turned into a reliable part of the lineup and had another great day going 2-0."

Rounding out the Eagle lineup in the third flight were graduate student Georgia Childers and freshman Margaret Musselman. The pairing dropped two matches on the day, falling 21-10, 21-13 in match one and 21-18, 21-13 in match two.

From the extra pairing, Morehead State earned a split across the two matches. In the first match, redshirt freshman Taylor Hodges and Reynolds would tie their flight, splitting 21-17 and 21-19. In the second match, Hodges would pair with Mabrey, picking up a win in three sets, 21-9, 20-22, and 15-6.

As the regular season concludes, Morehead State will wait to see if they have made the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament. The two-day event (April 19-20) features the top-six teams from the conference with both division winners (Stetson and Coastal Carolina) earning automatic berths. The next four teams will be selected by committee and will join the two division winners in Deland, Fla.
