MOREHEAD, Ky. – After concluding both portions of its 2018-19 schedule, Morehead State women's golf is set for postseason play, teeing off at the OVC Women's Golf Championship. The three-day, 54-hole event begins Monday at the Schoolmaster Course at the Shoals on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail (Par 72, 6,025 yards).
The Eagles enter postseason play after racking up five top-10 finishes during the 2018-19 campaign. In addition to five team top-10 finishes, Morehead State also collected an individual win, five top-five finishes, and 11 top-ten finishes.
In addition to the Eagles on course success this season, Morehead State also has a history of success at the OVC Golf Championships, claiming one team championship and two individual champions since returning to the course during the 2009 season. The Eagles claimed the team crown in 2011 thanks to individual champion Emma Jonsson while Marisa Kamelgarn also claimed the individual title in 2012.
Last season, Morehead State notched a top-five finish, finishing fifth at the Schoolmaster Course at the Shoals on the RTJ Golf Trail. The top-five finish marked the ninth top-10 for the Eagles and head coach
Stephanie Barker since 2009, finishing outside the top-five finishers just once in 10 OVC Golf Championships.
Junior
Gypsie Hutchinson led all Morehead State golfers last season, claiming a ninth-place finish. The finish marked the highest finish for an Eagle at the OVC Golf Championships since 2016 when Linnea Scholin tied for 10th. The finish also stands as Hutchinson's best finish at the event, having concluded tied for 27th in 2017.
Also joining Hutchinson in making her third start at the OVC Golf Championships is senior
Ana Dieguez. Dieguez has competed in each of the last two OVC Golf Championships, putting together a career-best finish of 26th in 2017.
Hutchinson and Dieguez both slot into Barker's lineup, with Hutchinson slotting atop the quintet while Dieguez slots fourth. Also comprising the lineup are redshirt sophomore
Bridget Connolly and freshmen
Elise Alaan and
Sarah Black. The trio slide in at second, third, and fifth respectively.
