Baseball Eagles Topped by JSU in Series Finale Sunday
JACKSONVILLE, Ala. -- The Morehead State baseball offense was held in check Sunday as the Jacksonville State Gamecocks defeated the Eagles 6-2 at Rudy Abbott Field.

MSU regressed to 28-17 overall and now 12-9 in the OVC. JSU motored ahead to 23-20 and 14-7 in the conference race.

The Eagles grounded out 16 times against Gamecock pitching and managed seven hits. Senior shortstop Reid tied the MSU career record for doubles (59) and plated the Eagles' first run with an RBI bounder into the left-field corner in the eighth inning.

The Gamecocks wasted little time in jumping ahead with Cole Frederick doubling into the left-field corner to score a run. JSU added three more in the second, including Frederick's second left-field double, a two-RBI one this time.

Two more JSU runs came across in the fourth, highlighted by a solo homer by Alex Strachan.

Senior left-fielder Jake Hammon batted home MSU's second tally of the day in the eighth, with an RBI single just inside the third base bag that rolled into the left-field corner.

Eagle starter Landon Weins, given his first career starting nod, absorbed the loss. He worked 1.2 innings and was charged with four runs against him. Sophomore right-handers Will Lozinak and Alex Garbrick also saw action, as well as junior righty Blake Preston.

Next action for the Eagles is set for Wednesday at Marshall at 3 p.m. ET. MSU defeated the 'Herd just last Tuesday 5-4.
