A Sweep of Eastern Kentucky Punctuates Beach Volleyball's Homestand

MOREHEAD, Ky. –
In the team's final home matches of the season, Morehead State beach volleyball completed the season sweep of its in-state rival. The Eagles (11-4) defeated Eastern Kentucky (1-11) in both ends of a dual match, taking the matches 5-0 and 4-1.

The dual match conclude a six-match homestand that saw Morehead State pick up five victories, including going a perfect 4-4 against Eastern Kentucky. During the homestand, the Eagles also pickup up their first Atlantic Sun Conference win, defeating rival Austin Peay for the first time in the sand.

Across the two matches, Morehead State implemented a couple of shifts to the lineup, swapping spots two and three and four and five between the two matches. The one pairing that remained the same was the first flight comprised of freshmen Hannah Keating and Allison Whitten. The pairing took all four games they played, improving to 11-3 on the season while having appeared together in the top flight in all but one match this season. With the wins, the pairing has won its last six matches.

The second and third lines featured the combinations of graduate student Georgia Childers and freshman Margaret Musselman and sophomore Olivia Lohmeier and freshman Olivia Montelisciani. Both pairings would compete at the twos and threes for Morehead State on the day, both claiming a pair of victories.

Junior Chandler Clark and freshman Hannah Mabrey and junior Liz Allen and sophomore Lauren Rokey made up the final two lines for the Eagles, competing in the fourth and fifth flights. The two pairings alternated slots during the matches with Clark and Mabrey taking both flights while Allen and Rokey split on the day, falling at the fours in the second match.

In the extra pairings, Morehead State picked up a pair of victories, sweeping the sixth flight on the day. Redshirt senior Jess Hall and junior Karlee Reynolds claimed victory in the first match before Reynolds paired with redshirt freshman Taylor Hodges for victory in the second match.

Morehead State continues ASUN play this weekend, travelling to the Palmetto State to take on a pair of league foes. The Eagles will compete in the Conway Classic hosted by Coastal Carolina that will also feature Austin Peay and Jacksonville State. Morehead State will face both Coastal Carolina and Jacksonville State twice with match times set for 11 a.m. ET (CCU) and 1 p.m. (JSU) Friday and 8 a.m. (JSU) and 2 p.m. (CCU) Saturday.
