BOX SCORE
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Morehead State baseball dropped the opening of a three-game series at Tennessee Tech Friday, 3-2.
The Eagles fell to 32-18 overall and 15-10 in the league.
Despite a solid pitching performance from junior lefty
Dalton Stambaugh (6.1 innings, nine strikeouts), the MSU offense was held in check for eight innings by TTU pitchers Andrew O'Dwyer and Tyler Sylvester.
The home team only generated four hits, but one was the OVC career-tying home run by Kevin Strohschein.
For the Eagles, they finished with seven hits. MSU had runners in scoring position in seven innings but struck out 10 times, all against O'Dwyer. Sylvester worked the final four innings for the save.
An RBI single with two outs in the ninth frame by
Ryan Layne got the MSU squad on the board. An error on
Reid Leonard's grounder allowed pinch runner
Brody Shoupe to then score. The ball got away and nearly careened into the dugout to allow the tying run to cross the plate. The Eagles then had runners on second and third but a fly out ended the threat.
Jake Hammon totaled two of the Eagles' hits, including a double. Layne also had two.
