MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Back in 1998, three women, including Brandy (Morris) Carver, had a vision. They wanted to play collegiate soccer, and they wanted to play for Morehead State.

Carver, along with her teammates Christy Herring and Jessica McAnnar, were on that first team that season and played together for four seasons. Now, more than 20 years later, Carver has made her home in Rowan County and is making her mark on education as the principal at Rowan County Senior High School.

She married Jamey Carver, MSU's current Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance, and the couple has three girls. She will begin her second full year as RCSHS's principal this fall after serving as assistant principal for five years and a science teacher before that for nine year.

"I truly believe that playing soccer at MSU and being captain helped to prepare me for a leadership role in education," she said. "As a high school principal, I view my staff as a team, my school family.  Everyone has a role in helping our school to be successful."

While there were some rough times that first season, Carver and her teammates helped lay the foundation for future success. In the four years she played, the team doubled its win total in each season, increased it goal scoring by an amazing 350 percent and limited the opponent goals by 182 percent. As a defender, Carver tallied four career assists.

"Being on a brand new team had its challenges," she commented. "We had never played together before, and so we did a lot of team bonding to get to know each other and learn to play together as a team.  We only won two games that season and we ended the season with 14 girls on the roster.  We grew very close as a team, giving us the foundation to build on the program in the seasons to follow. "

Carver still has lifelong friendships because of her experiences playing for the Eagles.

"Playing soccer at MSU was the highlight of my college experience.  It was an honor to be part of the inaugural soccer program at MSU," she said. "Soccer allowed me to develop lifelong friendships with my teammates.  Many of those players I am still in contact with today."

Carver earned her Bachelor's Degree in Biology in 2002, her Master's Degree in Teaching in 2004 and her principal certification in 2008.

She wouldn't envision her life in really any better manner, she says.

"I love getting to work with high school students.  It is very rewarding to see students mature and reach their goals as they move through high school," she said. "Seeing students walk across the stage at graduation and then go on to be successful adults is the best part of my job."

She also truly believes that her family's decision to make Morehead and Rowan County their home was the perfect choice.

"I say that we loved Morehead so much that we never left….and it's the truth!" she added. "My husband and I decided to stay and raise our family here and it has been the best decision we ever made.  We take our girls to games, and they love it as much as we do."

Once an Eagle, always an Eagle. Safe to say that is certainly true for this Eagle soccer star.
