NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Morehead State Women's Basketball team won its first road matchup in Ohio Valley Conference play, defeating Tennessee State, 84-47, on Thursday evening at the Gentry Center.
The Eagles' 37-point victory, which is the largest against the Lady Tigers in program history, improves their overall record to 7-10 and OVC mark to 3-2 for the 2019-20 season.
"I was pleased with our team's effort tonight," said MSU head coach
Greg Todd. "Overall I thought we played with good energy from start to finish and got a good road win at a tough place to play."
Morehead State opened the game with a 19-3 run and never looked back, leading by as many as 44 points in the game. The Eagles knocked down 27-of-61 (.441) field goal attempts, their best shooting clip on the road during the season.
Freshman guard
Tomiyah Alford led MSU in scoring with 19 points on 6-of-9 shooting. The 5-foot-10 rookie also grabbed seven rebounds and led the team with four steals.
Senior forward
Orlandra Humphries recorded her second consecutive double-double with 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Humphries rebounding effort helped lead the Eagles to a 41-36 advantage on the glass.

Breuna Jackson junior guard
Jazzmyn Elston. Elston finished with 12 points on 5-of-12 shooting while Jackson was 4-of-9 overall and 3-of-5 from beyond the arc for 16 points.
From the free-throw stripe, Morehead State connected on a season high 25-of-33 (.758) shots. The Music City native Jackson was a perfect 5-of-5 from the line, raising her OVC-leading free throw percentage to .939 on 46-of-49 shots.
Tennessee State was led in scoring by Jaden Wrightsell's 11 points. The Lady Tigers were 17-of-50 (.340) from the field. The loss drops TSU to 2-13 overall and 0-5 in league play.
