With numerous historical record projects and updates underway, Morehead State Athletics wants to continue highlighting records and historical performances and achievements from the athletic department's 93-year history.
To do so, we introduce our weekly feature "The Friday Five" which highlights various top-five game, season, career, or team performances for all Eagle programs.
In honor of Homecoming week, this week's top-five highlights the longest-serving athletic facilities at Morehead State.
1. Wetherby Gymnasium
Most Recent Name: Wetherby Gymnasium (1972-2018)
Other Names: Morehead State College Fieldhouse or The Fieldhouse (1956-1960s); Laughlin Fieldhouse (1960s-1972)
Location: Corner of East Main Street and Martindale Drive
Namesakes:
Governor Lawrence W. Wetherby (1950-55) – Named in honor of the former Kentucky Governor the facility was the first capital construction project at Morehead State under Dr. Adron Doran, secured during the Wetherby administration in 1954.
Men's Basketball head coach Bobby Laughlin (1953-65) – Unofficially nicknamed the Laughlin Fieldhouse in the 1960s, the nickname is derived from the facility's attachment to the Laughlin Health Building, named in Laughlin's honor.

2. Jayne Stadium

Namesakes:
Professor Williams LeGrande Jayne (1924-30) – Carrying over the name given to the former home of Morehead State football by the Board of Regents in 1931, the stadium is dedicated to the memory of former MSTC professor W. L. Jayne who devoted his life to Eastern Kentucky.
Governor Ned Breathitt (1963-67) – Named for the former Kentucky Governor, the facility, that included a 10,000 seat stadium, an eight-lane all-weather track (A. L. "Buck" Dawson Track), baseball field (Allen Field), and a football practice field, was secured during the Breathitt Administration.

Namesakes:
Baseball head coach John "Sonny" Allen (1966; 69-75) – When the 1,200 seat stadium was added to the existing baseball field in the Breathitt Sports Complex, Allen—the current head baseball coach—was chosen as the facility's namesake. In 14 seasons as head coach, he compiled a 226-135-2 record.

Namesakes:
Men's Basketball and Football head coach Ellis T. Johnson (MBB: 1936-43; 45-53; FB: 1936-52) – Considered by many to be one of the greatest coaches of his generation, Johnson guided the men's basketball and football programs to 230 wins in his 29 combined seasons as a head coach at Morehead State. Steering the men's basketball program, Johnson won 179 games and is the winningest coach in program history.

Namesakes:
