MOREHEAD, Ky. - Morehead State rifle lined up against second-ranked Kentucky Saturday. The match was scheduled to take place in Lexington but due to uncontrollable circumstances, the contest shifted into a virtual match for both teams. The match will count for the basis of national rankings but will not count as an official NCAA score.
The Eagles, ranked 15th in the latest CRCA poll, shot in Button Range and fired what would have been a school record in Air Rifle at 2360. MSU totaled a 2284 in Smallbore for a aggregate of 4644. Kentucky had a 4709 final tally. Army also shot in the match on its home range but did not count for a match for the Eagles versus the Black Knights.
In Air Rifle, a pair of juniors in
Katie Frye and
Erin Diehl led the team with 592 scores. Sophomore
Grace Weber had a solid day as well with a 591. Freshman
Andrew Morris tallied his best score yet with a 586, while senior
Ryan Hinson and junior
Amber Schifano notched 585 scorecards. Sophomore
Bryce Ward topped the 580 plateau as well with a 581.
In the Smallbore range, Frye and Weber paced the squad with 576s, while Diehl had a 575.
The Eagles are next scheduled to host OVC foe Jacksonville State on Oct. 31.
