Friday Five: Men's Basketball Career Scoring Leaders
MOREHEAD, Ky. – With numerous historical record projects and updates underway, Morehead State Athletics wants to continue taking time to highlight records and historical performances from the athletic department's 93-year history.

To do so, we introduce our weekly feature "The Friday Five" which highlights various top-five game, season, career, or team performances for all Eagle programs. This week's "Friday Five" features five players who find their jerseys hanging from the rafters in Johnson Arena as we examine the top-five career scoring leaders from the Morehead State men's basketball program.

Ricky Minard (2000-04; 2,381 points)… Ranking fourth all-time in scoring in Ohio Valley Conference history, Minard excited fans at Johnson Arena throughout his career en route to becoming the arena's all-time leading scorer. The Mansfield, Ohio native added the OVC's highest individual honor to his resume as a junior in 2002-03, earning OVC Player of the Year honors after leading the Eagles to a 20-9 record and a share of the league's regular-season title. Minard also earned OVC Freshman of the Year honors in 2000-01 and found himself named First or Second Team All-OVC during each of his four seasons in an Eagle uniform. Following his time at Morehead State, he was drafted 48th overall by the Sacramento Kings in the 2004 NBA Draft, spending a season with the G-League's Columbus Riverdragons—led team in scoring at 16.6 ppg—before embarking on an 11-year international career.

Herbie Stamper (1975-79; 2,072 points)… To say Stamper was a "Wanted" man by opposing defenses during his Morehead State career may be an understatement as he ended his career as one of the program's all-time leading scorers and the fourth player in OVC history to eclipse 2,000 career points. The Brinkley, Ky. native forever stands as the all-time leading scorer in Wetherby Gymnasium, putting forth four consecutive seasons of 450 or more points. A three-time All-OVC performer, Stamper ranks 13th in OVC history in career scoring. Following his time in an Eagle uniform, he spent a season playing professionally in Holland before returning as a student assistant coach on head coach Wayne Martin's 1980-81 staff.

Kenneth Faried (2007-11, 2,009 points)… In addition to his duties as the "Chairman of the Boards," Faried was also an accomplished, high-volume scorer for Morehead State. The Newark, N.J., native ranks second and third in career rebounding and scoring, respectively, ending his Eagle career as one of the best all-around players in program history. Faried claimed a long list of career accolades including a 2011 All-American nod, three OVC Defensive Player of the Year honors, and two OVC Player of the Year honors. Ranking 18th in career scoring in OVC history, he led Morehead State to a pair of OVC Tournament titles and appearances in the 2009 and 2011 NCAA Tournaments. The only first-round draft pick in Morehead State men's basketball history—22nd overall pick in 2011 by the Denver Nuggets—Faried played eight seasons in the NBA with Denver, Brooklyn, and Houston.

Dan Swartz (1953-56; 1,925 points)… Consistently leading one of the nation's top offenses, including at the time (1955-56), the highest-scoring offense in basketball history (2,782 points; 95.9 ppg), "Dangerous Dan" finished his three-year career, following a transfer from Kentucky, as the most prolific scorer in the history of Kentucky college basketball. A two-time All-OVC performer, the Owingsville native led Morehead State to its first NCAA Tournament appearance in 1956 and a pair of postseason victories against Marshall and Wayne State. Upon wrapping up his career at Morehead State, Swartz was drafted in the fourth round (10th overall) by the Boston Celtics in the 1956 NBA Draft. During his lone season in the NBA, he became the only Morehead State player to win an NBA Championship as the 1962-63 Celtics defeated the Los Angeles Lakers in six games.

John "Sonny" Allen (1946-50; 1,923 points)… Before becoming a do-it-all administrator and coach at Morehead State, Allen was a star on the hardwood for head coach Ellis T. Johnson. A Morehead, Ky., native, he starred at the University Breckinridge School before becoming the only Eagle—before the split to First and Second Teams—to earn four All-OVC nods. An All-American in 1950, Allen signed a professional basketball contract with the NBA's Indianapolis Olympians while also signing a professional baseball contract with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1946. Following his playing career, he began a coaching career that saw stints with the Morehead State baseball, basketball, cross country, and golf programs before entering into athletic administration.
