MOREHEAD, Ky. -- It's been a long time coming but Morehead State will officially have a team competing against outside competition this weekend as the defending Ohio Valley Conference champion Rifle team lines up against Murray State Friday and UT Martin Saturday, both at Murray.
Friday's match commences at 9 a.m. ET with Saturday starting at 10 a.m. While all athletes that travel - or are on the team - shoot typically, collegiate rifle matches consist of five "counters" or starters, taking the top four scores in Air Rifle and Smallbore to get a total, or aggregate, team score. Counters for the Eagles against Murray State includeÂ
Erin Diehl,
Katie Frye,
Ryan Hinson,
Elizabeth Plecity and
Bryce Ward for Smallbore. On the air guns, it's Diehl and Frye, along with
Amber Schifano,
Grace Weber and
Sally Reeke.

"We are happy to be starting our season. Amidst the uncertainty of the current times, we are looking forward to competing for the first time this weekend," said head coach
Alan Joseph. "We return a great group of student-athletes and have added two newcomers who are ready to compete and contribute. This weekend will be excellent competition for us as we face two of our conference counterparts in Murray State and UT Martin."
Hinson represents the lone senior on the roster, averaging 1154.9 last season, including 580.3 in Air Rifle. Plecity, a sophomore now, is the top returning scorer after being crowned OVC Freshman of the Year in 2019-20. She ranked second on the team behind departed
Alexa Potts with an 1156.3 aggregate average.
Diehl, Frye and Schifano are the junior class for 2020-21. Diehl ranked third on the team the previous year with an average of 1155.5 while averaging 589.2 on Air in the final four matches with a high of 594. Schifano was nearly the same, just barely behind at 1155.0, and she had four Air results of 590 or better on the year. Frye averaged 1152.1. She had a high of 588 on Air.
Weber and Plecity are joined with
Cailey Dahlquist and Ward in the sophomore class. Weber turned in an 1144.1 average in her first season, while Ward was at 1143.9. Dahlquist averaged 1123.
Along with Reeke, the other freshman is
Andrew Morris. Both attended Robinson High School in Virginia.
