MOREHEAD, Ky. – As final preparations are underway for the upcoming 2020-21 season, Morehead State women's basketball welcomes a reigning State Player of the Year and a three-time All-League Selection to the Eagle family as the program announces its 2021-22 signing class.

Joining the Eagle program as members of the 2021-22 signing class are guard Kalissa Lacy (Charleston, W.Va.) and post Janay Rose (Cincinnati, Ohio), both of whom will be freshman during the 2021-22 season.
 
Lacy, the reigning Mary Ostrowski Award winner, comes to Morehead State from George Washington High School in Charleston, W.Va. where she competed for head coach Jamie Lamaster. In winning the award following the 2019-20 season, she became just the seventh underclassman to win the Mary Ostrowski Award presented by the West Virginia Sports Writers Association signifying the state's top player.

In addition to earning West Virginia's top individual player honors, Lacy also garnered recognition as a West Virginia Secondary School Activity Commission Class AAA First Team All-State honoree, being named captain of the First Team All-State squad. She also earned 2019-20 Mountain State Athletic Conference Player of the Year honors after leading the conference and WVSSAC in scoring, by nearly seven-plus and five points per game, respectively.

"Kalissa has had a remarkable career in West Virginia and still has a year to play," remarked head coach Greg Todd. "She is an elite shooter and for the first time in her career, she will be able to focus on one sport."

As a junior in 2019-20, Lacy led all MSAC and WVSSAC Class AAA scorers at 24.6 points per game, improving her scoring average from her sophomore season (19.0 PPG) by nearly six points per game. Her 2019-20 scoring average claimed her a second-straight MSAC scoring title.

In addition to her excellence on the court, Lacy is an accomplished multi-sport star, competing for GWHS in soccer, softball, and swimming in addition to basketball. During her junior year, she helped lead the Pioneer soccer program to a WVSSAC Class AAA Region III Championship and a spot in the Class AAA State semifinals, being named All-State along the way. Lacy also helped GWHS to a State Swimming Championship last season, swimming three events at the State Swim Meet.

Outside of athletic competition, she is a member of George Washington High School's student council and a 4.0+ student in the classroom.
 
Rose joins the Eagle program after competing for head coach Jamar Mosley at Purcell Marian High School in Cincinnati, Ohio following a transfer from Deer Park High School, a fellow Queen City secondary school. A three-time All-League selection, Rose garnered Honorable Mention All-Greater Catholic League Co-Ed Division honors, helping the Purcell Marian Cavaliers to a 21-7 (7-2 GCL) record as a junior, claiming the program's second-best single-season win total in 2019-20.

In addition to helping PMHS to 21 wins in 2019-20, Rose also helped the program capture the Ohio High School Athletic Association Division III Springfield 3 Sectional title, advancing to the OSHAA Division III Region 12 Final. As a junior, she led the GCL Co-Ed Division in field goal percentage (59.6%) and ranked second in the league in blocks per game (1.3 per game) while averaging 6.0 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.

"Janay will give us some needed depth in the post. She works hard and has the size and strength to be a solid inside player in the Ohio Valley Conference," commented Todd.

Prior to her time at PMHS, Rose captured Second Team (2018-19) and Honorable Mention (2017-18) Cincinnati Hills League honors in her two seasons at DPHS, earning Second Team honors after averaging 10.3 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks per game as a sophomore.

Entering her senior season, Rose has poured in 514 points (7.45 per game) and corralled 416 rebounds (6.03 per game) while posting a career field goal percentage of 54.8 percent. She's also an accomplished shot blocker, averaging 1.77 blocks per game after collecting 122 rejections in 69 career games.
