MOREHEAD, Ky. – Continuing a tradition of adding talented Kentuckians to its roster, Morehead State men's golf adds a four-time Kentucky High School Athletic Association State Championship qualifier as a member of the team's 2021-22 signing class.
Three-time KHSAA 5th Region Player of the Year and four-time 5th Region individual champion Allan Lockwood (Elizabethtown, Ky.) will continue his golf career as an Eagle, joining the program during the 2021-22 season.
"We are very excited to add Allan to our recruiting class. He is another great fit for our university and program," said head coach
Matthew Martin. "He has enjoyed great success at the high school and junior golf level and I fully expect this to continue in college. Allan has a deep passion for the game of golf and will work hard in the classroom as well. I look forward to his arrival on campus!"
Competing for Central Hardin High School and coach Paul Gray, Lockwood qualified for the KHSAA State Golf Championship after capturing the KHSAA 5th Region individual championship in each of his four seasons of interscholastic golf competition. As a sophomore, Lockwood helped the Bruin program to a KHSAA 5th Region championship and a spot in the 2018 KHSAA State Golf Championship.
Lockwood posted his best finish at the KHSAA State Golf Championship as a senior, finishing seventh during the 2020 event. Relative to par, he concluded the two-day state championship at even par, fashioning scores of 69-75-144. Lockwood's senior season also saw him post the KHSAA's lowest round of the year, a nine-under-par 63 at the Bullitt East Invitational at Tanglewood Golf Course.
Lockwood also wrapped his career as a four-time representative on the Kentucky Golf Coaches Association All-5th Region Team, including winning the KYGCA 5th Region Player of the Year award in 2018, 2019, and 2020. Additionally, The News-Enterprise (Elizabethtown, Ky.) named Lockwood the Area Player of the Year each year from 2017-2020.
As a junior golfer, Lockwood has competed in events on the Kentucky PGA Junior, American Junior Golf Association, and Golfweek Junior tours. On the KYPGA Junior Tour, he claimed five top-10s, including a victory and runner-up finish while also qualifying for the Trusted Choice Big "I" National Championship in 2018. Competing on the Golfweek Junior Tour, Lockwood secured nine top-10 finishes, notching a pair of victories in events at Bowling Green (Ky.) Country Club and Heritage Hill Golf Club (Sheperdsville, Ky.).
