MOREHEAD, Ky. --
Looking to gain an early lead in the Ohio Valley Conference race, Morehead State men's basketball is slated to travel to Eastern Kentucky for a 7 p.m. ET matchup against the rival Colonels Monday night.

The game will mark the first head-to-head men's basketball competition pitting two OVC teams since March 7, 2020 in the OVC Tournament championship game. Fans can watch the game on ESPN+ or listen on MSUEagles.com (WIVY-96.3 FM).

The Colonels enter the game at 3-1, while Morehead State is 1-3. However, Three of the Eagles' first four foes (Kentucky Richmond, Ohio State) were ranked in the Associated Press Top 25. Richmond was receiving votes at the time but is now in the top 20.

It's the first of two early contests with EKU. The teams are scheduled to meet again on Dec. 14 at Johnson Arena.

GAME NOTES

• The game will mark the 195th all-time meeting with Eastern Kentucky, according to the MSU record book, with EKU leading 109-85.

• Morehead State has claimed victory in seven of the last 10 matchups with Eastern Kentucky, and head coach Preston Spradlin has led the Eagles to more victories (5) against Eastern Kentucky than he has claimed for any of the other 10 OVC opponents.

• Senior forward James Baker, Jr. is the lone senior listed on the roster. DeVon Cooper is also a fourth-year player but redshirted in 2019-20 due to injury and is a redshirt junior. It marks the lowest number of seniors on a Preston Spradlin-coached roster since his first year in 2017-18 when there were no seniors.

• Freshman forward Johni Broome was named Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Week for the first full week of games. He averaged 14.0 points and 7.7 rebounds while shooting 61 percent in the opening three games of his college career.

• Johni Broome's 25 points against Arkansas State was the most for an Eagle freshman since Jordan Walker dropped 26 versus UT Martin in 2016-17.

• Junior guard DeVon Cooper averaged 13.0 points and 8.3 rebounds in the last three contests. He scored his first career double-double against Arkansas State with 14 and 12. During that span, he also dished out 3.3 assists per game.

• Junior guard Skyelar Potter, a transfer from Wright State who sat out the second semester last season, registered an MSU career-high 13 points at Ohio State.

• The 2020-21 roster includes five in-state products from Kentucky high schools. James Baker, Jr. (Meade County), Jaylen Sebree (Christian County), DeVon Cooper (Waggener), Jacob Rice (Johnson Central) and Skyelar Potter (Bowling Green Central) all represent in-state talent.
