MOREHEAD, Ky. --
Morehead State rifle didn't waste any time performing at its best for the 2021-22 season Friday. Led by a school Smallbore record from junior Bryce Ward, the Eagles tied the program record for overall score in a victory over Georgia Southern.

MSU fired a 4674 team total to tie the mark previously set by the 2019 squad in the NCAA Qualifier. Ward had all 98s or better on his Smallbore targets for the school-record of 589. He bettered teammate Erin Diehl's previous mark of 588 set last season at home against the same Georgia Southern program.

The Eagles' 2319 Smallbore showing for the day was also just one shy of the school record.

Diehl added a 582 in Smallbore, followed by a 578 from fellow senior Katie Frye. Sophomore Sally Reeke's 577 rounded out the 2319 total.

On the Air Rifle range, freshman Danielle Vigil burst onto the college scene with a team (and match) high 592. Although she was not in the counters, Vigil's performance was one of the best ever for an Eagle in their collegiate debut.

Junior Grace Weber also topped the 590 plateau with a 591, including three 100 targets. Ward equaled his other total with a 589. Frye fashioned a 588, and Diehl came in with a 587.
