MOREHEAD, Ky. ā Morehead State women's basketball will make its final stop before beginning its 2021-22 campaign when they tip-off their lone exhibition game Thursday at 5:00 PM ET against Georgetown (Ky.) at Johnson Arena.
The Eagles, who finished last season 7-16, welcome in
Cayla Petree as the 11th head coach in program history. Petree comes to the Eagles after successful stints at Gulf Coast State College (Panama City, Fla.) and South Plains College (Levelland, Tx.), and is looking to translate that success at Morehead State.
The Eagles will look different on the court as well, with only three returners from last year's squad: redshirt juniors
Lauren Carter and
Freddy AdamsĀ and graduate student
Tyler Moore. Thirteen newcomers including transfers
Paris WilliamsĀ and
Terri Smith, and freshman
Morgan BrowningĀ will join them.
Moore returns to the Eagles as their leading three-point shooter from last season, collecting 40 three-pointers and shooting 33% from beyond the arc. Carter was the third leading scorer for the Eagles in 2021, averaging 8.3 points per game and was also third on the team in rebounds and blocks.
The Eagles enter the game a perfect 6-0 against Georgetown (Ky.), with their last meeting coming in the 1975-76 season.
The regular season begins Nov. 9 at Michigan State.
