Women's Basketball Takes the Floor Against Michigan State in Season Debut

MOREHEAD, Ky. –
Morehead State Women's Basketball kicks off their 2021-22 campaign Tuesday when they travel to East Lansing, Mich., to take on the Spartans of Michigan State. The game is scheduled to tip off at 6:00 PM ET.

This will be the second all-time meeting between the two programs, with their first coming in 2019, when the Eagles fell to the Spartans, who were ranked 19th in the country at the time. Tuesday night will also be the first regular season action for the Eagles under first year head coach Cayla Petree.

The game can be found on the Eagle Sports Radio Network, as well as airing on the Big Ten+ television network.

NOTABLE
• Cayla Petree has talked about wanting to have a fast offensive style, and the Eagles are hoping to improve on their 6.1 fast break points per game last season. Their highest total of fast break points in a game in 2020-21 was 22 points against Transylvania.

• First year head coaches at Morehead State are a combined 108-127 in their inaugural seasons. The high water mark for most wins from a first year head coach in program history belongs to Tom Hodges, who won 21 games in the 2010-11 season.
 
•The Eagles feature a collection of new faces from various levels to go alongside new head coach Cayla Petree. Jazmyn Gaines-Burns, Morgan Browning, Jalynn Marshall and Janay Rose join the team as true freshmen, and the Eagles have nine transfers from D1 squads; Paris Williams (Utah State), Jada Claude (Duke), Kiana Williams (Bethune-Cookman), Alana Denson (Coastal Carolina), Charlette Leurs (Hartford), Aiden Rainford (Radford), Terri Smith (SEMO), Kaitlyn Keathley (Presbyterian), and Julan McDonald (Memphis).
 
• Morehead State fell in their exhibition to Georgetown (Ky.) on Thursday night. The Eagles had four scorers hit double figures; Alana Denson with 17, Tyler Moore and Morgan Browning with 11 a piece, and Terri Smith with 10.
 
• Tyler Moore returns as the leading three-point shooter from last season for the Eagles. In 2020-21, Moore shot 40 three-pointers and was good for 33% from beyond the arc.
 
• In Morehead State's exhibition against Georgetown (Ky.), the Eagles account­ed for 54% of its offense from inside the paint.
 
• The Eagles had 38 bench points against Georgetown (Ky.), good for over half of their offensive output, due in large part to 17 points from sophomore Alana Denson.
