Record vs. ETSU: MSU leads 28-27
• Former Ohio Valley Conference member East Tennessee and Morehead State have met 55 times since 1954. The Bucs were OVC members from 1958-78, but the teams did not face each other from 1982-98. Since 1999, the teams have met up 10 times with ETSU leading the modern series 6-4, including winning the last three.
• Morehead State has not lost a home game in the 2021 calendar year. After winning all eight games in Johnson Arena last winter, the Eagles are 4-0 at home this winter, giving them 12 consecutive wins on their home court
• Morehead State saw
Johni Broome and
Skyelar Potter both registered double-doubles again in the win over Georgia Southern, both with 11 rebounds. It's the third time in the last two seasons that Broome and Potter had double-doubles in the same game.
• Sophomore guard Ta'Lon Cooper ranks second in the nation in assists. With an OVC-best 7.2 helpers per game, Cooper is one of only three players in Division I with multiple games of 12+ assists, of which Cooper has accomplished twice. He joins Kentucky's Sahvir Walker and California Baptist's Taran Armstrong in that group.
• Ta'Lon Cooper had 22 assists in the last two games, and amazingly 14 of them came when a teammate hit a three-pointer.
•
Johni Broome is one of just three players nationally averaging more than four blocked shots per game. Broome and his 4.1 rejections rank third nationally, ironically behind two players who play for schools relatively close to MSU (Western Kentucky and Marshall). Broome already has 93 career blocked shots, which ranks seventh on the program's career chart in just 39 games played.
• Headed by Broome, but supported by all other players, the Eagles rank 6th in the nation in blocks shots (6.9 per game). If the figures hold up, this would be the third consecutive season MSU has led the OVC in blocks.
• Taking pride in its defense, The Eagles have developed an unofficial stat called "kills" - A kill is three consecutive possessions for the opponent where it does not score. MSU has generated at least four kills in all games so far, had eight in four games, and a season-high 10 kills versus Kentucky Christian. SEE CHART PAGE 2.
• The Eagles lead the OVC in scoring defense, allowing an average of just 64 points per game. In the last seven games (where MSU is 6-1), opponents have averaged but a mere 58.9 points against MSU.
• Morehead State owns a string of 44 consecutive wins when leading with a minute left in regulation play. The last time MSU held a lead at the 1:00 minute mark of the second half and lost was a 65-64 setback at Jacksonville State on Jan. 21, 2019.
• Morehead State is averaging 8.7 three-pointers made per game and has hit at least five triples in all nine games. Just in the last six games, MSU has averaged 10.1 three-balls drained per outing.
• Junior
Jaylen Sebree is coming off his first MSU double-figure scoring game. Sebree hit a career-best three triples for a career-high 13 points versus Presbyterian.
