MOREHEAD, Ky. – Continuing to add to an already impressive 2021-22 signing class, Morehead State men's golf adds a thunderous addition, trekking over the falls to the Great White North for the newest member of the Eagle program.
Hailing from Niagara Falls, Ontario, Nolan Piazza joins Allan Lockwood (Elizabethtown, Ky.) and Davis Spradling (Clayton, N.C.) to comprise the 2021-22 Morehead State signing class.
"Nolan's resume speaks for itself. His accomplishments on the golf course are as numerous as they are impressive," said head coach
Matthew Martin. "I cannot wait to add Nolan to our list of Canadian golfers to cross the border and land here in Morehead. His game will absolutely translate to the college level and I very much anticipate his arrival to campus!"
Tops among of Piazza's accomplishments is earning an exemption for the PGA Tour Canada's Mackenzie Tour Canada Life Series Championship at TPC Toronto last September. Sitting at two-under after two rounds, he was one of six amateurs to make the cut in the event, making the cut by two strokes.
Piazza also became the first golfer in nearly 15 years to capture two Golf Ontario Provincial Junior Boy's Championships, winning the titles in 2018 and 2020. Both of his titles were impressive as his first came as one of the youngest players in the field—turning 15 on the first day of the championship—while his second came by a 10-stroke margin, including a tournament-low, six-under 66 in the final round.
In addition to two Provincial championships, Piazza has claimed 13 other tournament victories on the junior circuit since 2016, including winning nine tournaments in 15 events during the 2016 season. He's also added 15 additional top-10 finishes, recording 30 over the past five years.
Competing for head coach David Shaw and the A.N. Myer Secondary School program, Piazza led the Marauders to three-consecutive Southern Ontario Secondary Schools Association Zone III championships, leading to a pair of SOSSA championships. With the two regional championships earning A.N. Myer a pair of Ontario Federation of School Athletic Association Championship appearances, producing a third-place finish in 2019.
With the 2020 SOSSA and OFSAA seasons postponed due to Covid-19, Piazza concludes his Marauders career as a three-time recipient of the team's Most Valuable Player honor, three district, and two regional championships while also claiming the 2018 SOSSA individual championship.
