MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Morehead State's
Johni Broome put up more stellar numbers last week, leading to him tying the program record record by earning his seventh Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Week award.
He ties Erik Brown (1998-99) and Ricky Minard (2000-01) with seven accolades. Both those men went on to earn OVC Freshman of the Year. The seven awards is also the fourth highest total for one individual in OVC history.
Broome posted his 10
th and 11
th straight games scoring in double figures while registering his seventh and eighth double-doubles of the season at Tennessee State and Belmont. The eight double-doubles is the most by an Eagle freshman in more than 30 seasons.
Broome opened the week with 20 points, 12 rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block at TSU while hitting 9-of-12 from the field. Despite a setback, Broome led all players with 13 rebounds while scoring 11 at Belmont. He now also has at least one blocked shot in nine straight contests.
Broome is one of only three freshmen in Division I to lead his team in points, rebounds and blocked shots, joining Michigan's Hunter Dickinson and USC's Evan Mobley.
