Broome and Potter Earn OVC Weekly Accolades; Broome Named Lou Henson Award National Player of the Week
MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Morehead State men's basketball standouts Johni Broome and Skyelar Potter both earned Ohio Valley Conference accolades for their play this past week in helping the Eagles run their winning streak to 11.

Broome was tabbed OVC Freshman of the Week for the sixth time, while Potter earned his second OVC Newcomer of the Week honor. Broome was also honored as the CollegeInsider.com Lou Henson Award National Player of the Week. The Lou Henson Award goes to the nation's top mid-major player at the end of the season. Broome's six awards in his initial season is just one short of the program record held by Erik Brown (1998-99) and Ricky Minard (2000-01).

Broome, who hails from Plant City, Fla., recorded his sixth career double-double in the 66-56 win over Murray State Thursday, helping the Eagles sweep the regular season series from the Racers for the first time since 2002-03. Broome also added four blocked shots in both games last week, also keying an Eagles' 75-74 overtime win over Austin Peay. Against APSU Broome scored 19 points and corralled eight rebounds. For the week he shot 61 percent and averaged 17.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 4.0 blocks.

Potter was also a key catalyst in the Eagles' sweeping wins over Murray State and Austin Peay this past week. The 6-3 guard from Bowling Green, Ky., posted his second career double-double with team highs of 20 points and 13 rebounds against APSU, including five offensive rebounds. He also scored 12 and grabbed seven boards against Murray State. For the week, Potter shot 46 percent and 83 percent at the free throw line.

Broome, Potter and the Eagles travel to Nashville, Tenn., this week to face Tennessee State and Belmont. TSU is first on Thursday night at 9 p.m. ET.
