MOREHEAD, Ky. –
Following a two-game, midweek series, Morehead State baseball continues non-conference actions, facing a four-game series with Norfolk State during the team's Ohio Valley Conference bye weekend.

The weekend series marks the second consecutive season that Morehead State has travelled to Norfolk, Va. for a weekend set with the Spartans. The Eagles swept last season's three-game series—the only previous meeting for the two teams.

Morehead State enters the weekend after dropping both ends of a midweek series with West Virginia while Norfolk State comes in off a doubleheader split versus Longwood last Sunday.

All four games of the weekend series feature live video through NSUSpartans.com.

NOTABLE
  • In a continuation of one of Morehead State's newest series, the Eagles meet Norfolk State for just the second-ever series between the two this weekend. The first meetings between the clubs came last season as Morehead State swept the Spartans in Norfolk, Va.
  • After making an appearance against West Virginia Wednesday, redshirt junior John Bakke ranks second in the NCAA in pitching appearances. The southpaw has appeared in 10 of Morehead State's 16 games, falling one appearance shy of LSU's Devin Fontenot for the NCAA lead.
  • Relievers, redshirt senior Cory Conway and freshman Grant Herron, rank second in the OVC in pitching appearances, each with eight on the year. The triumvirate each appeared in Wednesday's game at West Virginia.
  • Morehead State's pitching staff enters the four-game, weekend series ranked fourth in the Ohio Valley Conference in strikeouts per nine innings, averaging 9.5 K/9. Overall, the Eagles have struck out 141 hitters in 134.0 innings on the season.
  • Despite only recording two strikeouts in Tuesday's game at West Virginia, the Eagles returned picking up eight punchouts in Wednesday's game. In 16 games this season, the Eagles have recorded six or more strikeouts in 15 games while recording six-plus punchouts in 28 of 31 games during head coach Mik Aoki's two seasons.
  • Conway and Bakke, rank top-10 in the OVC in strikeouts per nine innings, ranking sixth and ninth, respectively. The pair represent the only two primary relievers—no games started—in the league's top-10 as Conway posts a 12.23 K/9 while Bakke holds an 11.25 K/9.
  • Herron also posts a strikeout per nine inning total greater than 10.0, posting a 13.06 K/9, striking out 15 batters in 10.1 innings on the season. While not meeting the innings minimum, he'd rank second in the OVC in the category.
  • Holding opponents to a .200 batting average this season, Bakke ties for fifth in the OVC in the category. On the season, he's permitted just 11 hits in 55 at-bats against him while recording 20 strikeouts.
  • Reaching base with a hit by pitch in Wednesday's game, freshman centerfielder Ryley Preece has reached base in each of the past eight games with his reached base streak the longest active Morehead State streak. Since entering the starting lineup eight games ago, he's hit .387 with 12 hits, four extra-base hits, four RBI, and six runs scored.
  • Freshman first baseman Jackson Feltner, with a pair of hits in Wednesday's game, upped his reached base streak to six games. The streak marks the second-longest active reached base streak for the Eagles.
  • Feltner and Preece each recorded a multi-hit game in the midweek series with West Virginia, each totaling four multi-hit efforts on the season. The pair along with senior catcher Jack Gardner lead Morehead State with four multi-hit games apiece this season.
  • Gardner enters the weekend series with Norfolk State ranked third in the OVC in home runs, hitting four long balls this season. He also ranks fifth in the league in walks and sixth in the conference in RBI, drawing 11 base on balls and driving in 15 runs this season.
