MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Morehead State Beach Volleyball returns to action this week as the Eagles wil face three matches against Eastern Kentucky.
The Eagles and Colonels play in Richmond at 5:30 p.m. ET Tuesday for a single match that will not count in the OVC standings. The teams turn around and play again Wednesday at Fazoli's Breadstick Beach at 2 and 4 p.m. in matches that will count towards the OVC record. Wednesday is the lone home date for the 2021 season.
Admission is free to home beach volleyball matches but COVID-19 social distancing must be adhered to, and masks must still be worn while in the facility.
The Eagles find themselves on top of the league race after the first weekend as MSU went a perfect 4-0 in Alabama this past weekend. The Eagles will face the same teams this weekend in another OVC weekend, this time at EKU.
NOTABLE
- Junior
Margaret Musselman and sophomore
Anya Reinhard went 3-1 as a pair this past weekend and now are 9-1 in their two seasons in the program as a pair. Their .900 winning percentage is currently tops in program history.
- With Musselman and Reinhard claiming three wins, all three came as the deciding match in 3-2 Eagle victories over Chattanooga, Austin Peay and Jacksonville State.
- Morehead State has now officially won 11 consecutive matches since April 20, 2019. The Eagles claimed two wins over Louisville that day, went 5-0 in the shortened 2020 season and are 4-0 this year.
- Junior
Allison Whitten enters the week with wins in her 13 of her last 14 matches. She teamed with senior
Olivia Lohmeier to go 6-0 in 2020 and is 3-1 with partner
Hannah Keating this season. The Whitten/Keating pair has won seven of the last eight individual matches and has 20 wins since the 2019 season now. That continues to rank as the best flight pair wins total in program history.
- Whitten and Keating have now teamed up to play 26 matches, and that ranks third in program history in flight pairs matches played.
