Five Home Runs Not Enough as Baseball Falls in Back-to-Back One-Run Results

BOX SCORE (GAME 1 ) | BOX SCORE (GAME 2)

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. --
Five home runs, including one in each game by freshman Jackson Feltner, wasn't enough as the Morehead State baseball team dropped a pair of one-run results to Tennessee Tech at the Averitt Express Complex Saturday.

The Eagles, who lost all three this weekend and dropped their first OVC series, slipped to 23-19 and 12-9 in the league.

Feltner hit a game-tying three-run homer in the second game and added a solo shot in the first game. Jack Gardner, Alex Jacobs and Bryce Hensor also launched pitches that left the yard.

But Tennessee Tech ended up scoring the deciding runs in both games after Eagle errors kept the inning going, leading to unearned runs.

For Feltner, he became the fifth freshman in program history to hit double-digit homers in a season. He is also the first frosh with 10-plus homers since Major Leaguer Taylor Davis in 2009.

HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME 1

- By the third frame, MSU had a 2-0 lead. Feltner smacked a solo homer to the right field in the second, and Hensor lifted a long ball to center in the third.
- TTU got a run back with a solo homer in the fourth and took the lead for good in the fifth on a two-run clout.
- The Golden Eagles scored in the seventh after a ball was dropped in left field.
- In the ninth, Jacobs - a sophomore DH - sent his second pitch of the season over the wall more than 400 feet to center.

HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME 2

- TTU staked itself to a 4-0 lead after three innings, including a solo home run by Jason Hinchman.
- Senior third baseman Stephen Hill doubled to score freshman center-fielder Ryley Preece in the fourth to make it 4-1.
- Gardner followed with his 11th long ball of the year, a two-run smash, to make it 4-3.
- Trailing 6-3 in the eighth inning, Feltner came up and tied the game with a three-run homer to left field that scored Gardner and Preece.
- Preece plated the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth on a double which scored Hensor, who had doubled himself.
- In the bottom of the ninth, Tech loaded the bases on a double, infield single and a muffed catch at first base on a sac bunt attempt. Tech then grounded into a double play to tie the game 7-7. After an intentional walk to put runners at first and third, a pinch-hit single by Gavin Johns ended the game.

NOTABLE

- Feltner's hits in both games upped his reached-base streak to an OVC-best 32 games and his hitting streak to 23 games, which also leads the league.
- Hensor had two hits in both games, moving his multi-hit games to 17 which tops the Eagles' hitters.
- Sophomore pitcher Luke Helton came within one of his career-high with eight strikeouts in the opener but was tagged with the loss to fall to 3-2. Senior Cory Conway made his 18th appearance this season and struck out four.
- Preece collected three hits in the second game, his fourth three-hit game in his first college season.
- Junior closer John Bakke was saddled with the game two loss despite pitching 3.0 innings with no earned runs allowed.
- Hensor scored three runs today and leads the OVC with 49 times crossing the plate in games this season.
