Women's Golf Claims Victory in Season Opener; Connolly Claims First Career Medalist Honor

MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Playing as an individual, Morehead State senior
Bridget Connolly claimed medalist honors and the women's golf team claimed a team win as MSU faced off with Bellarmine at the Battle at Boone's Trace in Richmond, Ky., Sunday.
Morehead State shot a 303-300--603, bettering the Knights by 30 strokes. Connolly - a native of New Zealand - fired a 72-76--148 to top teammate
Hailey Rietz, who was part of the lineup, by one stroke. Reitz carded a 75-74--149. Connolly's win was the first of her Eagle career.
In fact Morehead State had the top four finishers among the team lineups. Sophomore
Olivia Hensley was third overall with a 75-75--150. Playing in her hometown, sophomore
MacKenzie Neal shot a 76-75--151,
In her first collegiate event, freshman
Hanna Montgomery fashioned a 77-76--153, while sophomore
Alina Sophie-Koch rounded out the lineup with a 79-76--155.
Besides Connolly, MSU had its other three athletes playing as individuals. Junior
Isabella Washka scored a 77-77--154, while junior
Sarah Black came in at 79-77--156. Redshirt freshman
Hannah Curreri recorded an 81-79--160.
Josephine Bonin was the top finisher for Bellarmine with a 77-76--153.Â
The Eagles return to action Sept. 12-14 at the Golfweek Conference Challenge in South Carolina.
