MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Morehead State men's golf fired the best team round of the day Saturday to wrap up the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational at Ball State. Overall, in a very tightly packed field, the Eagles finished ninth.
Only 10 shots separated ninth from second place. MSU finished with an 866.
"We posted two good rounds to start and finish the event. And we also learned some valuable lessons in round two about controlling the few variables we actually have control of in this great game," said head coach
Matthew Martin. "I am proud of how we responded today. Shooting under par as a team will give us some momentum to go forward with."
The Eagles shot a 278 in Saturday's final round, tying with tournament champion Wright State for the only teams to be under par on the day.Â
Fifth-year senior
Joe Muschong once again led the squad, tying for 16th place with a 71-74-68 -- 213. Sophomore
Cameron Travis, with a 73-72-70 -- 215, was next on the scoreboard for MSU.
Fifth-year
Ryan Gillum carded a 69-76-76 -- 220 to finish in 38th. Freshman
Nolan Piazza had a tough second round, but book ended that with solid efforts to shoot a 71-83-71 -- 225. Fifth-year
Zac Viminitz fired a final round 69 but had his second round score not count.
Mason McGhee played in his first event since 2019, as an individual, and finished at 81-78-82 -- 241.
Golf returns to action on Sept. 27-28 at the JT Poston Invitational in North Carolina.
