SCHEDULE
MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Coming off one of the most thrilling seasons in program history, an Ohio Valley Conference title and an NCAA Tournament appearance, the Morehead State men's basketball team is ready for the challenges presented with the 2021-22 schedule.
The Eagles finished 23-8 in 2020-21, did not miss a single game due to CoVID, and set numerous program records and streaks. Returnees
Johni Broome and
Skyelar Potter earned All-OVC nods with Broome being selected the league Freshman of the Year and Freshman All-America.
Preston Spradlin, now in his fifth full-time season, was named the OVC Coach of the Year.
"We are excited to finally release our schedule. All of these opponents are quality teams and many you will likely see in the NCAA Tournament this year," said Spradlin. "It's also a great chance to showcase our program on national television against high-quality competition."
Morehead State finished 12-1 in home games in 2020-21 and has won 13 of its last 14 in Johnson Arena. MSU also set the program record with 17 league wins last winter.
"It also a great opportunity to play in front of our home fans and students as we have a good number of home games prior to the end of the first semester," he said. "All of this is great preparation for us to get ready for the 18 games in the OVC. The league has a lot of new faces, both players and coaches, so it's a great schedule that will give us quality league play both at home and on the road."
The Eagles' non-conference slate features a variety of power five and mid-major opponents, while the OVC slate features a double round robin versus all nine current teams.
MSU's non-conference road games include battles at Auburn (Nov. 9), UAB (Nov. 12), Mississippi State (Nov. 21), Arkansas State (Nov. 26), Kansas City (Nov. 27 at Arkansas State tournament), East Tennessee (Dec. 11), Xavier (Dec. 15) and IUPUI (Dec. 21).
Home non-conference foes include Kentucky Christian (Nov. 15), North Alabama (Nov. 18), Georgia Southern (Dec. 1), Presbyterian (Dec. 6) and Alice Lloyd (Ky.) (Dec. 18). The Eagles have a home exhibition game versus Kentucky State set for Nov. 3.
The Eagles open OVC action with a pair of games Dec. 29 against Eastern Illinois and Jan. 1 against Tennessee State. Other notable home games include Belmont (Jan. 20), Murray State (Feb. 12) and senior day versus Southeast Missouri (Feb. 19).
