Men's Basketball Returns to Defend Home Court Winning Streak Wednesday

MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Morehead State men's basketball returns to Johnson Arena for the first time in nearly two weeks Wednesday night when UT Martin makes its way to Northeastern Kentucky. Game time is set for 7 p.m. ET.

The Eagles will look to extend their lengthy home winning streak of 14 games against the upstart Skyhawks, who are 2-1 in the OVC under Lexington, Ky., native and first-year head coach Ryan Ridder. MSU head coach Preston Spradlin has led his team to success against UTM, winning six straight since his interim season in 2016-17.

The game can be heard on the Eagle Sports Radio Network (WIVY-96.3 FM) with Chuck Mraz and Dean Hardin. It's also available on MSUEagles.com as well as network partner WGOH 100.9 FM/1370 AM. The game will also air live on ESPN+ as Mike Tussey and Jared Stacy call the game.

NOTABLE
• Morehead State has seen overwhelming success against UT Martin, especially in games played in Johnson Arena. The Eagles lead the all-time series 40-16 and are 23-4 all-time against UTM at home. Morehead State has won the previous 12 home games against the Skyhawks, with UTM's last win at MSU on Dec. 19, 2005.

• The Eagles enter the week with 14 consecutive home victories. MSU did not lose a single home game during the 2021 calendar year. Also, with 28 wins during the 2021 year, MSU ranked seventh nationally in total wins during the year.

• Morehead State has now won 11 consecutive games in January, dating back to going 9-0 in the first month of the year last season. The last January loss for MSU was Jan. 25, 2020 versus Jacksonville State.

• In the last four games, MSU has allowed just 51 points per game. During the four-game winning streak, the Eagles' margin of victory has averaged 74-51. 

• Morehead State has allowed only one of its six home opponents to score more than 60 points this winter (66 to Presbyterian) and in last two seasons, 12 opponents have failed to reach 60 points against MSU on its home floor. MSU leads the OVC for the second consecutive season in scoring defense at just 63.1 points per game.

Johni Broome ranks sixth in the nation with an OVC-best nine double-doubles. He now has 22 career double-double efforts in 45 career games. He is the only OVC player averaging a double-double as he also ranks first in the league in rebounds at 10.1 per game.

• With an OVC-high 93 assists, sophomore point guard Ta'Lon Cooper ranks eighth nationally in total assists. Cooper has eight games with six or more helpers this season. With 298 career helpers, two more and he will move into the top 10 in career assists in program history.

• Grad transfer Tray Hollowell has hit at least one three-pointer in all 15 games in 2021-22 and owns a string of 22 consecutive games with at least one three-ball made since last season at Wofford. Hollowell now has 231 career collegiate three-pointers. If he had made them all at MSU, that figure would rank second in program history, surpassing former OVC Player of the Year Ricky Minard's 226 career triples.

Tray Hollowell enters the game with 980 career collegiate points, including 799 in four seasons at Wofford. Currently there are 34 former MSU players who have registered 1,000 points while suiting up as an Eagle.

• Morehead State averages 30.2 points in the paint, or 43 percent of its total point average. The Eagles have scored at least 10+ points in the paint in all 161 of head coach Preston Spradlin's games as official head coach.

• Morehead State leads the OVC in fewest opponent rebounds at 30.7 per game. The Eagles rank second in the league in rebounding margin at +5.7.
