MOREHEAD, Ky. -- After what will be an 11-day hiatus between games and two CoVID postponements, Morehead State men's basketball is ready to get back to action. The Eagles are set to face Austin Peay on the road Saturday at 5 p.m. ET.

Morehead State last played on Dec. 29 - a 63-50 win over Eastern Illinois. Austin Peay has faced the same dilemma, missing a pair of games as well.

MSU rekindles its OVC rivalry with Austin Peay in the Govs' final year in the OVC. Lasting since 1964, the Eagles-Govs' series is the closest contested series for MSU with the Eagles leading 57-56 after a 75-74 overtime win last year. MSU has not had as much success playing in Clarksville over the years as at home versus APSU, trailing 38-17 in games played at APSU.

The game can be heard on the Eagle Sports Radio Network (WIVY-96.3 FM) with Chuck Mraz and Dean Hardin. It's also available on MSUEagles.com as well as network partner WGOH 100.9 FM/1370 AM. The game will also air live on ESPN+.

NOTABLE

• Morehead State ranks second in the OVC, hitting nearly nine three-pointers per game. MSU has hit five or more three-pointers in all 14 games this winter and has 17 straight contests now with five or more triples made.

• The Eagles tied for the program's most non-conference victories (8) since 2014-15. The most non-conference wins in a modern-era season was 11 in 1990-91.

• The previous two OVC games were postponed, with makeup dates set for the Tennessee State game (now Jan. 24 at 6 p.m. ET) and at Tennessee Tech (now Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. ET). Both were the result of CoVID protocols within TTU's and TSU's programs.

• Morehead State has now won 10 consecutive games in January, dating back to going 9-0 in the first month of the year last season. The last January loss for MSU was Jan. 25, 2020 versus Jacksonville State.

Johni Broome is the lone OVC player averaging double-figures in rebounding at 10.3. Broome has recorded double-doubles in five consecutive games heading into the weekend and ranks tied for third in the nation with nine double-doubles this year and 22 for his career.

Johni Broome ranks ninth in the nation in blocked shots, averaging an OVC-best 3.6 per game.

• With an OVC-high 88 assists, sophomore point guard Ta'Lon Cooper ranks seventh nationally in total assists. Cooper has eight games with six or more helpers this season. With 293 career assists, he needs just seven more to move onto the top-10 list for career assists in program history.

• Grad transfer Tray Hollowell has hit at least one three-pointer in all 14 games in 2021-22 and owns a string of 21 consecutive games with at least one three-ball made since last season at Wofford. Hollowell now has 229 career collegiate three-pointers. If he had made them all at MSU, that figure would rank second in program history, surpassing former OVC Player of the Year Ricky Minard's 226 career triples.

Tray Hollowell enters the game with 971 career collegiate points, including 799 in four seasons at Wofford. Currently there are 34 former MSU players who have registered 1,000 points while suiting up as an Eagle.

• Lipscomb transfer Jake Wolfe would rank fifth in the nation in free throw percentage (if he had enough makes to qualify). As it is, Wolfe is 16-of-17 at the free throw line this season.

• Morehead State ranks 18th nationally in fewest fouls committed per game. Opponents average less than 10 free throw attempts per game against Morehead State.

• Assistant coach Scott Combs makes another return trip to his alma mater, Austin Peay. The dean of OVC assistant coaches, Combs spent 12 seasons with APSU's program, helping the Govs win five total OVC titles and advance to two NCAA Tournaments while winning 20+ six times.
