Classes of 2020 and 2021 Officially Inducted into MSU Athletics Hall of Fame

MOREHEAD, Ky. -- In a special ceremony Friday, the Morehead State Athletic Hall of Fame classes of 2020 and 2021 were officially inducted.

The Hall of Fame welcomed class of 2020 members Casie Garland (Volleyball 2001-04), Drew Lee (Baseball 2007-10), Dr. Alex (Gjevre) Nail (Softball 2007-10) and Coach Matt Ballard (Football 1994-2012), plus the 2021 class of Rebecca (Butler) McKenney (Softball 2008-11) and Nick Feldman (Football 2005-08).

The Hall of Fame, which inducted its inaugural class in 1985, now stands at 157 members.

Garland, who hailed from West Chester, Ohio, was the OVC Freshman of the Year in 2001 and still holds Morehead State's career assist record with 5,265. Her assist total ranks as the fourth highest ever in OVC history. She was named Second-Team all-conference in 2003 and Honorable Mention all-league in 2001. Garland helped the Eagles to 74 career wins during her time, including 20-win seasons her first three campaigns under head coaches Mike Swan and Dr. Jaime Gordon. FULL BIO

Lee, a native of Mount Sterling, Ky., is one of the most prolific student-athletes in Morehead State baseball history, earning three All-OVC nods. He earned First-Team honors in 2009 and 2010 and All-Freshman accolades in 2007. He was also a three-time OVC Player of the Week. Lee still holds the MSU career records for RBI (186), extra-base hits (107) and total bases (476) and held records for hits (277) and doubles (59) at the time of his graduation before they were eclipsed only in the past three years. Nail, originally from Billings, Mont., led a resurgence of the Eagle softball program from 2007-10 and joins teammate McKenney as just the third and fourth-ever softball student-athletes to be inducted into MSU's Athletic Hall of Fame. She was a three-time First-Team All-Ohio Valley Conference pitcher and was voted the league's Pitcher of the Year in 2008 when she posted a 0.96 earned run average and went 17-6 in the circle. Nail helped guide Morehead State to 117 victories during her career. She still holds the program's career records for wins (70), strikeouts (651), appearances (145), starts (114), saves (7), shutouts (21) and innings pitched (745.1). Ballard led Morehead State football from 1994 until 2012, taking over a program that had begun the process of dropping athletic scholarships and transitioning out of the Ohio Valley Conference. In just three years, Ballard had rebuilt the Eagle program into a winner, collecting six wins in 1996. He went on to guide the Eagles to a total of 102 wins, the most of any head coach in MSU football history. Ballard helped lead the Eagles into a new era as well when MSU joined the Pioneer Football League in 2001. He was named the PFL South Division's Coach of the Year four times (2002, 2003, 2004, 2005). He was named NCAA Division I-AA (now FCS) Mid-Major National Coach of the Year and Coach of the Year among I-AA Independents in 1998.  That Eagle squad ranked No. 1 among I-AA Mid-Majors by The Football Gazette. During his tenure, MSU student-athletes earned 71 First-Team All-PFL honors. He also coached four NCAA Mid-Major National Players of the Year. FULL BIO

A four-time All-OVC selection, including twice on the first-team, McKenney teamed with fellow inductee Nail to lead a resurgence in the program during her years 2008-11. Manning third base for the Eagles all four seasons, McKenney earned First-Team All-OVC in 2009 and 2011 and was a main catalyst in the Eagles winning 115 games during those four campaigns, the most wins of any four-year class. The Pendleton, Ind. native's legacy has stood the test of time in the last 10 years. She still holds the program career records for games played (211), runs scored (117), hits (218), doubles (46), extra-base hits (77), total bases (356). She also owns the single-season total bases record (113) in 2011. FULL BIO

A native of Oconto, Wis., Feldman became one of the most dynamic receivers and kick return specialists in MSU and Pioneer League history during his playing days from 2005-08. Even after more than 15 years post-playing time, Feldman still owns the PFL career record for most punt return touchdowns (4), highest punt return average in a season (18.96 in 2005), career punt return yardage (1,259) and career punt returns (103). All except season average are MSU records as well His first full season in 2005 culminated in him being named Football Gazette and Sports Network All-American. He was named First-Team All-PFL in 2005, 2006 and 2007 and earned PFL Special Teams Player of the Week three times. FULL BIO
