MOREHEAD, Ky. -- The Eagles battled hard on senior day, but didn't have enough to overcome SEMO in Johnson Arena on Saturday, falling 70-62.
Morehead State forced the Redhawks into 13 turnovers, good for 22 points, but had their own turnover problems for the second straight game, giving up the ball 17 times over the first three quarters.Ā Ā
Jada Claude led the way for Morehead State, leading all scorers with 19 points and seven rebounds after only having two points in the first half.
Alana Denson finished with 11 points of her own,
Julan McDonald added 12 points and seven rebounds and
Terri Smith chipped in 10 against her former team.
The two teams went back and forth for much of the first half, with both sides going on extended runs but neither team able to build enough of a lead to get comfortable distance from the other, and the game was tied at 26 going into halftime.
Jada Claude proceeded to take over the third quarter for the Eagles, going 6-6 from the floor for 12 points, but it was the Redhawks who pulled away on the scoreboard, launching a 13-2 run to take a 51-42 lead into the fourth quarter.
The Eagles opened the final frame with seven straight points to slice the lead all the way down to two, but the Redhawks responded by connecting on four straight baskets to build their lead back to 62-54. Morehead State made a late gasp after a three pointer from
Alana Denson, but it wasn't enough to make up the deficit.
Next up, the Eagles take to the road for their final road trip of the year, beginning at Eastern Illinois. The game will tip off at 6:00 PM ET.
