MOREHEAD, Ky. – Led by a stellar effort from
Joe Muschong, Morehead State men's golf finished second at The Joust.
The Eagles were paced by consistent play on their par 4s, where they led the tournament with a 4.23 scoring average. Morehead State also led the tournament with 46 birdies throughout three rounds.
"We had a strong showing in our first event of the spring season. Our guys battled through rust and very tough conditions. Joe was steady the entire week. Nolan showed his great potential with flashes of brilliance. And Ryan's round today was phenomenal," head coach
Matthew Martin said.
Muschong racked up his second consecutive second place finish, fashioning rounds of 72-70-73—215. The Lexington, Ky. native hovered around the top three for the majority of the tournament, ending at two-over par and only one shot behind the leader.
Ryan Gillum charged up the leader board in the third round, posting a team low two-under par, good for the lowest score of the tournament in round three, which allowed him to move up twenty-four spots and tie for tenth.
Nolan Piazza had the second best scoring average on par 4s and fashioned a 73-74-75—222 en route to a top-25 finish.
Zac Viminitz shot a 72-74-82—228 and
