Men's Hoops Slips Up in Regular-Season Finale at SIUE; Eagles Set for No. 3 OVC Tourney Seed

BOX SCORE

MOREHEAD, Ky. --
Morehead State Men's Basketball fell to SIUE 77-70 in the final regular season game Saturday at First Community Arena. The Eagles' Skyelar Potter hit three straight three-pointers late in the second half to bring his team within three points. Although the visitors made a late-game push, it was not enough to overcome an SIUE team fighting for the last spot in the OVC tournament.

The Eagles fell to 21-10 overall and 13-5 in the OVC. With the regular season ending the Eagles secured the No. 3 seed when they travel to Evansville, Ind., this week. They will look to defend their title with hopes of winning their second straight OVC title. MSU's first game is against either No. 6 Austin Peay or No. 7 Tennessee Tech Thursday at 10 p.m. ET.

Double-double machine Johni Broome was his usual self, contributing 13 points, 11 rebounds and two blocked shots. Broome now has 123 blocks this season, the fourth highest single-season total in OVC history. Broome has also secured his 22nd double-double on the year, which puts him just six away from tying Kenneth Faried's MSU single-season record.

But, many more Eagles contributed as junior Jaylon Hall had another standout performance netting 14 points on 50 percent shooting. Potter added 13 points shooting 3-7 from three. All three of his threes came in succession in the final two minutes. The Eagles trailed 39-38 at halftime and fought back and forth in the second half.

Ta'Lon Cooper also had 11 points and six rebounds.

Morehead State was just 4-of-11 from behind the three-point arc in the first 20 minutes but drilled seven three-balls in the final half for 11 for the game. It's the ninth game this year with double-digit three-pointers.

The Eagles also out-rebounded their 21st different foe this year, beating SIUE on the boards 41-34.
