MOREHEAD, Ky. – Women's golf kicked off their spring slate at the Mid-American Challenge in Lakewood Ranch, Fla., where they finished 5th after picking up three wins in four matches.

The Eagles opened the tournament with a 4-0-1 victory over Ohio University, before falling to eventual champion Illinois State in round two. Morehead State bounced back on day two by sweeping their matches, first with a victory over Eastern Michigan and then topping Western Michigan in the fifth place match.

"Our success really was a team effort. Every player had at least two great matches, some had three great matches and MacKenzie had four; she played phenomenally," head coach Stephanie Barker said. 

MacKenzie Neal swept her matches, becoming only the second Eagle in program history to complete a match play event at 4-0. Neal's four pairing victories give her nine in her collegiate career, vaulting her into second place all-time for the Eagles. Maintaining her first place position on the program leaderboard was Bridget Connolly, who split her matches at 2-2 and now owns 10 pairing victories. Hanna Montgomery also shined for the Eagles putting together a 3-1 record throughout the event.

"I'm really proud of this group. Overall, this was a great start to our spring," Barker added. 

The Eagles return to the course in three weeks at the Rivertowne Invitational in Charleston, S.C.
