Beach Opens South Carolina Trip with Win Over Former OVC Rival EKU

MOREHEAD, Ky --
Facing a former Eagle player on Eastern Kentucky's number one pair and boasting a former Colonel player themselves, Morehead State Beach Volleyball opened the College of Charleston Classic with a 3-2 defeat over EKU Saturday early morning.

The Eagles are now 3-0.

At No. 1, the Eagle pair of Olivia Lohmeier and Allison Whitten faced former teammate Hannah Keating, along with Shannon Stone. MSU prevailed in a three-set battle, 21-13, 16-21, 15-12. Lohmeier increased her school-record career win total to 40, while Whitten improved to 38-7 all time.

Down at number five, EKU transfer Raegan Alexander faced her former team. Teaming with Bridget Bessler, the Eagle duo won in straight sets, 22-20 and 21-16. Bessler is now 16-1 in the last two seasons.

The Eagles sealed the win as number three pair Olivia Montelisciani and Bella Williams outlasted Sydney Schoen and Kaylin Johnson 21-11, 22-24, 15-6.

On court two, Anya Reinhard and Trinity Miller battled but dropped a three-set contest, while at No. 4 Margaret Musselman and Abby Hulsman fell in two sets. The extra set match saw Eagle partners Irene Wogenstahl and Andrea Grimes win in a two-set tilt.

MSU plays Coastal Carolina at 3 p.m. ET Saturday.
