Lohmeier and Whitten Win Twice, But Beach Volleyball Comes Up Short in Pair of Matches Sunday

MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Number one pair
Olivia Lohmeier and Allison Whiten claimed two more wins Sunday, but the Morehead State Beach Volleyball team absorbed a pair of setbacks to wrap up the College of Charleston Beach Classic Sunday at the Creekside Club.
The Eagles, now 3-3, were edged 3-2 by Jacksonville before falling 4-1 to the host Cougars.
Against Jacksonville, Lohmeier and Whitten prevailed after dropping their first set, winning 19-21, 21-19, 15-11.
Abby Hulsman and
Margaret Musselman also claimed a win over their Dolphin counterparts, winning 21-15 and 21-12 at No. 4. On court two,
Anya Reinhard and
Trinity Miller fought to three sets but took a 11-21, 21-16, 13-15 decision in favor of JU.
In the C of C matchup, Lohmeier and Whitten knocked off their opponents 24-22 and 21-11. Lohmeier now has 42 career flight victories, while Whitten moved to 40-8 for her career, the top winning percentage for an individual in program history.
Three of the other matches featured extra points but the Eagles dropped them all in straight sets. Miller and Reinhard succumbed 25-23 in their second set.
Olivia Montelisciani and
Bella Williams took their first set to 22-20, while at No. 5
Raegan Alexander and
Bridget Bessler lost a 22-20 affair in set two.
The Eagles' next scheduled action is the first Ohio Valley Conference weekend, hosted by Chattanooga, on March 25-26.
