MOREHEAD, Ky. – Coming off a match play victory over Northern Kentucky and a third place finish at the Butler Spring Invitational, Morehead State men's golf prepares for the Carpenter-Chaney Classic.
Named after legendary head coaches Jerry Carpenter (UT Martin) and Dr. Rex Chaney (Morehead State), UT Martin will co-host the inaugural tournament with the Eagles.
Chaney, who retired following the 2013-14 season after 38 seasons at the helm of the men's golf program, coached 20 All-OVC selections, six All-OVC Tournament honorees, six conference-tournament runner-ups, three-league tournament medalists, and two OVC Players of the Year. He was named to the Morehead State Athletic Hall of Fame in 2000 before joining the Ohio Valley Conference Hall of Fame in 2014.
Joe Muschong, reigning OVC Golfer of the Week and all-time program leader in match play victories, will lead head coach
Matthew Martin's lineup. Fellow fifth-year
Zac Viminitz joins Muschong atop the lineup after also sweeping the team's last match play event and finishing tied for 8th at Butler.
Cameron Travis,
Ryan Gillum, and
Blake Evans will round out the quintet, while
Nolan Piazza will compete as an individual.
The field for the tournament consists of nearly every OVC team and will be a precursor for the OVC Championship taking place at the end of the month.
The two-day, 54-hole match play event tees off from Tunica National in Tunica, Miss. before concluding Tuesday.
