MOREHEAD, Ky. –
In his final OVC stroke play event, fifth-year Joe Muschong has claimed medalist honors, finishing atop the leaderboard at the OVC Championship. The victory marks the first medalist honor in Muschong's career and is the second OVC Champion to be crowned under head coach Matthew Martin.

After opening his tournament with a first round 73, Muschong charged up the leaderboard and into first place with a 68 in day two. The impressive round was the lowest of any player in the tournament and tied for the lowest round at the OVC Men's Golf Championship under Martin; a mark that Muschong notched last season as well.

Muschong struggled through the first three holes on day three, putting him behind the leaders in the early going, but the Lexington native rallied to put himself back into contention late in the round. A birdie on the 18th hole pushed him past Belmont's Jack Uselton and put the pressure on SIUE's Brooks Jungbluth, who bogeyed two of his final three holes and enabled Muschong to claim the championship.

By virtue of claiming medalist honors, Muschong was named to the All-Tournament team and has now qualified for the NCAA Regionals for the first time in his career.

Muschong and the Eagles continue their quest for a team victory at the OVC Men's Golf Championship Wednesday as they enter the match play portion of the event. The Eagles are the three seed and will open their day in the semi-finals against UT Martin, with tee times beginning at 9:10 a.m. ET.
