Baseball Returns to Allen Field for Two-Day, Three-Game Set with Presbyterian

MOREHEAD, Ky. –
Winners in five of their last six games, the Morehead State baseball team returns home to Allen Field this Saturday to kick off their longest home stand of the season with a three-game set vs. Presbyterian. The Eagles (12-15) come into the series following a series win over OVC rival Tennessee Tech, where they took two of three from the Golden Eagles in Cookeville for the first time since 2017. The visiting Blue Hose (12-15) come in winners of three of their last four, taking two of three from UNC Asheville and beating in-state foe South Carolina last Tuesday.

The first two games of the series come on Saturday, as the first pitch of game one is set for 12:00 p.m. ET, with the second game starting approximately 45 minutes after the conclusion of game one. Sunday's contest is slated for an 11:00 a.m. ET start. All three games will have live stats available. Saturday's games are slated to be on ESPN+..

NOTABLE
  • Left fielder Alex Jacobs has been on fire as of late. Jacobs now holds a 25 game on-base streak as well as a 17-game hit-streak. In the month of March, Jacobs had 29 hits with a .402 batting average, two homers and 13 RBI. He sits at tenth in the OVC in hits this season with 35.
  • Ryley Preece's performance in the four games last week earned him OVC Player of the Week honors. Preece finished the TTU series with six hits, including a four-hit, three home run performance in Saturday's win. The Eagles' leadoff hitter is third in the OVC in homers with nine, and leads the team in the category. He also sits in seventh place in the conference in slugging percentage (.677) and OPS (1.143).
  • Logan Castleman caught fire this weekend, finishing with five hits in two starts, including a four-hit game on Saturday. Among qualified hitters, Castleman sits at fourth in the OVC in batting average at .409, and fifth in on-base percentage (.500).
  • Luke Helton put together his best start of 2022 in Friday's win over Tennessee Tech in the series opener. Helton only allowed one hit and one run (unearned) in 5.2 innings pitched with five K's. Helton has only allowed one home run this season, tied for first in the conference.
  • Jarrett Miller continued his fine season last weekend, picking up a win Friday night. In 2.1 innings, Miller struck out four Tennessee Tech batters while only giving up one run. The right-hander sits in a tie for second in the nation in appearances with 18.
  • John Bakke picked up a save in both wins over TTU, bringing his 2022 total to six (third in the OVC). The Eagles' closer leads the team in ERA (1.63), WHIP (1.03), and K/9 (12.5). Bakke has 13 career saves - all in the last two seasons - and sits only four saves shy of tying the program career record of 17 held by Michael Thompson from 1992-95.
  • Colton Becker had five RBI over the weekend, including three on Friday night. Becker has nine doubles on the season, good for sixth in the OVC. Becker has started all 27 games at shortstop for Morehead State in 2022.
  • Presbyterian comes into the series with a 5-7 record away from home this season, but does hold an impressive road win over South Carolina on March 29.
