Baseball's Bakke, Jacobs Earn First-Team Academic All-District Accolades
ALL-TIME MSU ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT/ALL-AMERICA AWARD WINNERS

MOREHEAD, Ky. --
Morehead State baseball graduate students John Bakke and Alex Jacobs both earned spots on the District II First-Team Academic All-District Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The long-running program honors student-athletes who excel on the playing venue and also possess at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA. Bakke has earned a 4.0 GPA in wellness promotion, while Jacobs owns a 3.76 GPA in social studies education. Both are now eligible to be Academic All-Americans on the national DI ballot.

Bakke and Jacobs are the 11th and 12th baseball student-athletes in program history (Drew Lee earned it twice) to be Academic All-District winners. Eight baseball Eagles have gone on to earn Academic All-America awards, the most of any team at Morehead State.

Bakke, a Huntsville, Ala., native, has become a utility pitcher of sorts for the Eagles. The closer for the past two seasons, Bakke has transitioned to the weekend rotation and is 2-0 in that role with a complete game effort against UT Martin while also tossing 7.0 innings for the win against Eastern Illinois. He also leads the Ohio Valley Conference with a 2.52 ERA and has 59 strikeouts in 50 innings on the hill. Bakke also has seven saves this season and 14 for his career to rank among the top closers in program history. Overall he is 4-3 this season, and opponents only hit .222 against the left-hander.

Jacobs, from Plymouth, Ohio, has become one of the most consistent and dangerous hitters to pitch to on the Eagles and in the OVC. Jacobs enters the weekend with a 44-game reached-base streak, longest in the league. He also led the OVC earlier this season with a 23-game hitting streak. Overall, the left-fielder is batting .376 wth 10 doubles, three triples and three home runs to go along with 32 RBI. His on-base streak has positioned himself up to the team lead in on-base percentage too at .456.
